Soap Opera Spy’s Happy Mother's Day to All the New Moms on Our Favourite Soaps

It’s Mother’s Day this Sunday and if you are a mom, we salute you for your dedication to your children and all the hard work that goes being into a great mom. To celebrate this special day, today we’ll take a look at some of the new moms on our favorite soaps and how the shows handled their pregnancies.

Soap Opera Spy’s Happy Mother's Day to All the New Moms on Our Favourite SoapsGH – Teresa Castillo
General Hospital’s Teresa Castillo, who plays nurse Sabrina Santiago, gave birth in late May 2014 to beautiful daughter Victoria Milani Aaron. Her husband, Shane Aaron, is an event planner that she married in 2008. Castillo met her hubby when they worked together doing theater performances at Disneyland in California.

After Castillo announced her pregnancy, General Hospital showrunners decided to write her pregnancy into the show and her character Sabrina turned up pregnant by Patrick Drake [Jason Thompson]. As often happens in the soaps, Sabrina lied about the baby’s paternity since Patrick had dumped her for his back-to-life wife Robin. The truth came out but Sabrina lost their son Gabriel after a premature birth.

Fortunately, Castillo’s real-life birth went much better. She said of the birth, “Shane was by my side through the whole thing — cheering me on, taking care of me. He has been the most amazing husband through the whole pregnancy, labor and delivery, and is already a great dad.”

Soap Opera Spy’s Happy Mother's Day to All the New Moms on Our Favourite SoapsB&B – Linsey Godfrey
Linsey Godfrey, The Bold and the Beautiful’s Caroline Spencer, birthed baby girl Aleda Seren Adamson. Aleda’s father is Godfrey’s boyfriend and fellow actor Robert Adamson. He portrays Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless and they’ve been dating since 2012 and are now engaged as well as co-parenting.

Godfrey’s pregnancy was not written into the show and proved to be a bit of a struggle since her character Caroline wed on-screen sweetie Rick Forrester while she was showing. Godfrey had to be double corseted to fit into her wedding gown on the show. Daughter Aleda’s birth is something of a miracle for Godfrey who was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma when she was just 18.

The cancer and her family’s tendency toward early menopause meant she had a small window to get pregnant. Godfrey said of her pregnancy, “I don’t have the luxury of waiting until my thirties.” Fortunately, Godfrey was able to get pregnant, although she had a scare when she mistook her pregnancy symptoms for a cancer recurrence. Happily she’s cancer-free and now has a beautiful baby.

Soap Opera Spy’s Happy Mother's Day to All the New Moms on Our Favourite SoapsGH – Kirsten Storms
General Hospital’s Kirsten Storms gave birth last January to daughter Harper Rose Barash with her husband Brandon Barash, also an alumni of GH. Storms plays Maxie Jones and her hubby played mobster Johnny Zacchara on the hit ABC soap. Interestingly, Storms’ pregnancy did not have to be written into the show because her character Maxie was pregnant first!

Storms also had fertility concerns prior to becoming pregnant because she suffers from endometriosis which can make getting pregnant a challenge. Her endometriosis was so severe that Storms was forced to take a medical leave from the show from 2011 into 2012. She then took maternity leave from January through April of last year.

The first time mom is lucky that she gets to work alongside her new daughter Harper. On Valentine’s Day this year, the tiny tot premiered on GH as Georgie, daughter of Maxie and Damien Spinelli. Another interesting bit of pregnancy trivia for Storms and Barash is that she estimates that they may have conceived baby Harper in co-star Tony Geary’s [Luke Spencer] guest room.
