'General Hospital' Going Live For May Sweeps!

Generally speaking, soap operas have stopped broadcasting live, and the last time a soap did it was back in 2002 with One Life To Live. However, General Hospital is about to break that sabbatical, since Soap Opera Digest is reporting that GH is about to go live – on May 15th and May 18th. Mark the days in your calender, GH fans!

According to the report, the actors for that episode will perform both episodes twice for the different time zones. Executive Producer Frank Valentini gave a statement on it, mentioning, “Taking such an iconic show as GENERAL HOSPITAL live for two days is both exhilarating and risky. I am enormously proud of our cast, crew and staff for all their tireless dedication and hard work that will be leading up to this daytime television event. It’s live television and absolutely anything can happen, but that is what’s fun about this and we’re absolutely up to the challenge.”

Lisa LoCicero [who plays a pregnant Olivia] even joked, “Can you imagine if my water breaks on live TV? That’d be the greatest show ever!” She might tease, but knowing General Hospital writers, that might be exactly the stunt they would pull. The mere fact that they’re going live is that they have something special planned for those two episodes, and water breaking on live TV would certainly be a momentous occasion.
