‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Billy Can Be A Good Influence Over Reed – Co-Parenting May Lead To Villy Reunion

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Billy Can Be A Good Influence Over Reed – Co-Parenting May Lead To Villy ReunionReed (Tristan Lake Leabu) might not stay in Genoa City for long on ‘The Young and the Restless’. If Vickie (Amelia Heinle) doesn’t seek help in parenting this feisty young man he could bolt again. While not an ideal choice, Billy (Jason Thompson) does possess enough backstory to become a positive influence in Reed’s life.

For starters, Billy was Reed’s stepdad. Non-litigious minds know that he still is. So Vickie should take comfort in having someone who is uniquely familiar with her teenage son available again.

Make no mistake, Vickie is not off-base in being leery about Billy’s involvement with Reed. Mr. Abbott has lived in such a reckless fashion that she felt compelled to leave him multiple times and seek divorce decrees. But it can’t be said that Vickie ever did so because of anything Billy did that specifically caused Reed harm.

At his base, Billy is a good man. His battles with addiction may represent an ideological question. Does he refute free will and embrace drinking, gambling and womanizing, or has his body chemistry predisposed him to leap in those directions? A balanced view might conclude that consideration on Billy’s behalf is warranted, along with established checkpoints to make sure that he’s doing everything possible to stay clean.

J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) apparently wasn’t able to handle this sudden-teenager, which is a wink at the character’s soapily aged chronology. So Vickie can’t possibly conclude that she’ll be able to raise their son through to adulthood all on her own. The reckless messages that some so-called modern minds send represent an attempt to overthrow parental authority and that destructive mythology must always be blocked, or destroyed. Reed’s defiant attitude isn’t a call for pure adult reflection.

Vickie and J.T. chose to split up years ago, which created a situation where both sides were weakened and thus Reed suffered. While he isn’t her current husband, or Reed’s natural father, Billy can surely recognize and respond to Reed’s impulses in a different manner than Vickie based upon his own experience.

In addition to incorporating Victor’s (Eric Braeden) and Nikki’s love into Reed’s life, Vickie should also welcomed measured input from Billy. Her son can benefit from the presence of all caring adults who are near and dear to him.
