The Young and the Restless RUMOR: Forthcoming Sheila Correction - Character Mistake To Be Undone

Tenured fans have often discussed the manner in which Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) was written out of ‘The Young and the Restless’ in 2007. The idea that Michelle Stafford (who played Phyllis at the time) was asked to play a dual role and become Sheila was preposterous. But rumor has it that Brown’s return to B&B means a rewrite for Y&R as well.

Surely it’s a subjective point for this author to make. But he believes that Stafford’s brief take on Sheila was ill-advised. He doesn’t chide Stafford in the least, as she was simply working through an assigned task. That actor is great no matter her role.

But TPTB at Y&R should have never concocted the Phyllis doppelganger story. It didn’t pass the suspension of disbelief test. And time has only served to deepen just how goofy that decision was. But the past is gone.

In terms of the present, Sheila has just appeared on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’. That’s great news on two fronts. First, it allows one of the best daytime actors in this era to work again. Brown hasn’t been seen on the soaps since 2010, when she played Judge Cressman on ABC’s beloved ‘All My Children’. Secondly, it enables a bad write-out to be reimagined.

Conjecture about Brown’s politics not matching with the Bell family’s persuasion and therefore causing her absence have seemingly been proven false. As everyone knows, people of both major political parties work for and with each other in the real world. That’s true in Hollywoodland as well.

So, Sheila told Katie (Heather Tom) this week that she had served her time, apparently implying that she’d (Sheila) been in jail. Sheila also directly addressed her apparent death, by saying that stories about her identity weren’t true. Both dialogue points foreshadow Sheila further detailing where she’s been and what she’s been doing since 2006, when this character was last seen on B&B.

Whatever method is then used to write Sheila back into Genoa City will also serve to address Y&R’s history in her regard. Yes, the doppelganger mistake will apparently be addressed soon.
