'General Hospital' Interview: Maurice Benard Discusses Battling Bipolar Disorder, Teases New Acting Gigs In Near Future‘General Hospital’ star Maurice Benard has always been open about his personal battle with bipolar disorder – coincidentally his on-screen son Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) is enduring a similar struggle.  Years ago Maurice confirmed that he struggled with the disease – just like his character Sonny Corinthos did in Port Charles.  Recently Maurice sat down for an interview with his former ‘GH’ co-star Real Andrews on the radio show ‘Getting Real.’

Maurice Benard recently filmed the highly anticipated new movie ‘Joy’ with fellow soap stars Laura Wright, Susan Lucci, and Donna Mills.  The movie is already receiving Golden Globe nods – and was a huge stepping stone in Maurice’s career.  During his interview with Real, Maurice revealed that he almost didn’t make it to Boston to film the movie because of his anxiety over flying – he hadn’t been on a plane in over 10 years!  Maurice explained that he managed to over come his fears and made it to the ‘Joy’ set, and ever sine then he has felt like a whole new man.

The ‘General Hospital’ star went on to say that he has been going to dozens of auditions since he got a handle on his bipolar disorder and anxiety – and he has a feeling there will be a ton of new acting jobs in his future.  Maurice dished to Andrews, “I can tell you right now.  I’m gonna get a lot of jobs coming next year.”  Hopefully not TOO many jobs, because we would hate to see him not have enough time for ‘General Hospital!’
