‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) Interview: Alison Sweeney Opens Up About Her Brief Return to DOOL and Life Beyond Soaps

Days-Alison-sweeneyMany “Days of Our Lives” fans were thrilled when Alison Sweeney returned to Salem last week as Sami Brady. Sami stirred up trouble for 21 years and most of us have missed her spunk. However, there was a bit of a downside to the iconic character’s comeback. Sami showed up in town to mourn the loss of her firstborn son. Of course, a letter from EJ (James Scott) took Sami in an exciting new direction and we’ll get the chance to watch her uncover the mystery. In an interview with Toofab.com, Sweeney opened up about her latest stint on DOOL as well as her life beyond the NBC soap.

Will’s (Guy Wilson) death caused some heartbreaking drama for “Days” viewers. It was no different for Sweeney. The 39-year-old actress noted that she was delighted to be back on set, but her tragic scenes proved difficult to get through. Sweeney said, “It was really, really an emotional roller coaster. I was so happy to be there and see all of my friends and the crew that I’ve worked with since I was 16 years old, but it was all out on the surface playing out Will’s death…that was really hard for me.”

Sweeney also talked about how important it is to stay in shape. It seems Sweeney has been able to maintain her 30-pound weight loss by shifting her perspective. “I changed my mind about how I felt about fitness,” Sweeney said. Instead of thinking of workouts as the “torture” of each day, Sweeney started having an attitude of gratitude. The actress admitted, “…I realized how lucky I was to be fit and to go out there and find a workout I actually enjoy doing.”

If you watch “Days of Our Lives” regularly, you’ve probably seen Sweeney’s commercials for Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant. Sweeney has partnered with the brand to raise money for City of Hope Cancer Research Center. Every time someone uses the hashtag “#TrulyRadiantFinish,” a dollar will be donated to this very worthy cause. That’s great news for City of Hope.

Finally, Sweeney discussed the pros of leaving DOOL. It was tough for Sweeney to walk away from a job she loved, but she’s been appreciating the freedom. “I’m really enjoying this process and getting to be home with my kids more and challenging myself in new directions with making these movies and writing my novel, which will be out next May,” Sweeney said. “It’s been really fun for me to explore these new things.” Stick with “Days of Our Lives” to see Sami finish out her return stint.

Have missed the heck out of Sami but I understand her wanting to have more time with her family. It would be nice if she came back for a couple days once in a while.
