Y&R Spoilers: Inside the Reported Backstage Tension Between Eric Braeden & Peter Bergman

Y&R Spoilers: Inside the Reported Backstage Tension Between Eric Braeden and Peter BergmanThe Young and The Restless spoilers and updates reveal there was some backstage conflict between Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) and Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott) in the beginning.

In fact Bergman, fresh from a previous soap opera role where that character was similar to the young Jack Abbott, brought all his “cocky” to the new show!

Peter Bergman Came To The CBS Soap From ABC’s “All My Children”

Peter came to The Young and The Restless from the ABC soap “All My Children” where he’d played Dr. Cliff Warner for several years.

Peter played a young doctor who was prone to cheat on his wife, who was an heir to an older rich businessman’s fortune.

So, making the shift to interacting with Victor Newman from AMC’s Palmer Cortlandt (James Mitchell) really wasn’t that much of a leap.

The Cliff Warner character that Peter played on “All My Children” could tend to come off as a little cocky, and so it wasn’t difficult to transfer that to Jack Abbott.

But then everyone who’s ever had a job experiences friction with some coworkers-and at first, there was a lot of friction behind the scenes with Eric!

Peter Admits That At First, Jack Was A Cocky Character So He Had To Be Cocky!

It may not be the most shocking revelation to discover that Peter Bergman once had some tension with a fellow cast member.

To complicate things further, when the All My Children veteran took over the role of Jack from Terry Lester in 1989, he found himself in nearly constant scenes with the castmate, Eric, with whom he clashed.

Nowadays, Jack’s character isn’t too different from Bergman himself, who’s an all-around nice guy.

However, when he first joined Young & Restless, the character was portrayed as a womanizing, manipulative scoundrel,” he remarked in a recent episode of Soapy. “He wasn’t very nice-therefore, I had to prepare myself in a way that allowed me to bring a bit of cockiness to the set.

Eric Definitely Noticed The Cockiness That Peter Brought To The Set!

“I brought a lot of cocky confidence to the set,” Bergman reflects, which likely raised some eyebrows, especially those of Eric Braeden, who portrays Jack’s constant adversary, Victor. “I can imagine Eric glancing over and thinking, ‘Who is this Mr. Cocky?” So, how did they resolve their differences?

For a while, the tabloids had a field day with the tension on set. However, over time, Bergman and Braeden not only settled their disputes but also became what Bergman describes as “great friends.”

While they take pride in maintaining the intensity of one of television’s longest-running rivalries, Bergman is equally proud of “the journey we’ve shared” behind the scenes.
