Of course, we are talking about The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden, who is best known for his role as Victor Newman on the hit CBS soap.

Eric has reached icon status thanks to his portrayal as the ruthless businessman who has ruled Genoa City and kept everyone under his thumb for the last several decades now.

However, there was a time in which Eric wanted to throw in the towel, which might be hard to believe now seeing how he’s one of the most successful actors in the daytime television world.

In an interview with People magazine, Eric admitted that when he first started on the soap, he didn’t realize how hard it would be in soaps and seriously thought about quitting on the spot. That’s right – we almost lost the legend that is Victor Newman.

Apparently, Victor was meant to be killed off after just one year. The actor told the publication, “They had gotten to a point where I wanted to leave the show after about a year. I couldn’t stand the medium, to be frank with you. It is daunting.”

And while Eric has had plenty of experience working in different Hollywood films, he says that there’s nothing harder in the business than the soap opera business.

He continued, “It’s the hardest medium there is. I’ve done them all. It is relentless, ruthless.”

Thank goodness Eric decided to keep up with it and because of it, he’s given us over four decades of the best daytime television entertainment that anyone can ask for. Here’s hoping that he will remain on the canvas for as long as Genoa City will have him, right? Fingers crossed.
