Y&R Christel Khalil Talks Soap Nixing New Lily Romance To Go Another Route

The Young and the Restless’ Christel Khalil Talks Soap Nixing New Lily Romance To Go Another Route

The Young and the Restless spoilers for the week of April 6-10 imply that the Winters family grew by one when fans learned that Holden Novak (Nathan Owens) was the biological son of Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore).

Christel Khalil (Lily Winters) recently spoke to Soap Opera Digest (SOD) about the storyline and the new romantic love interest that the soap nixed.

It’s A Boy!

The Young and the Restless spoilers note that both Malcolm and Stephanie Simmons (Vivica A. Fox) returned to storylines this past week, and both had respective secrets: Malcolm’s being that he has aplastic anemia and needs a bone marrow transplant, and Stephanie’s being that she has a donor lined up for him … his unknown, bio son, Holden!

This not only affects Malcolm, but Lily too, as she’s gaining a brother!

Khalil tells SOD, “It’s so great to see the Winters family expanding and getting more people because, you know, we’re so lonely, our little island of three.”

Of course, she’s referring to Lily’s adopted brother Devon Hamilton Winters (Bryton James) and her cousin Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic).

Khalil goes on to say, “It was really exciting to come back from my maternity leave, and just be thrust into this really fun, great story.”

In terms of Holden being Lily’s new half-brother, Khalil says, “I love Nathan (Owens) so much, and it’s so fun to work with him. To have it be Nathan, it couldn’t have been any better.”

New Romance Nixed

While Lily continues her on-again/off-again reunion feelings for her ex-husband, Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn), many fans were hoping for a new romance for her.

The only sad part about Holden being Lily’s brother is that there is no way these two could dive into a relationship.

There had initially been some sparks between the two when they first met (yuck, now, right?), and clashes between them could’ve been viewed as a possible right of passage to a romance; however, this is no longer the case.

Khalil confirmed to SOD that the show had originally intended to pair Lily and Holden up. Khalil notes, “That was actually going to happen. They were going to play the story that we were going to have a little love match before my maternity leave, actually.”

She goes on to say, “We were gonna do this whole little side storyline — and then that’s when Josh [Griffith, executive producer/head writer] got the idea of, like, ‘Oh, my God, they should be siblings!’”

Khalil also stated, “… then they were like, ‘Wait, wait, wait — did we ever have them kiss?’ And then they were like, ‘Oh, no. Thank God! We didn’t have them kiss!’ So, they ended up making us siblings, which I think is way more interesting.”
