Hallmark Channel When Calls The Heart spoilers and updates pose the question, with Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) set to leave Hope Valley, is the actor leaving the show? Let’s look at what happened in the season finale, and how this could all play out.
Hearties Have Been Worried About Lucas’ Future
We must acknowledge right from the start that Hearties have been worried about the character’s future for some time; really since he took on the role of Governor.
This position removed him from Hope Valley, making it more challenging for him to appear in every storyline.
Nevertheless, the producers discovered ways to incorporate him, and recently we witnessed a narrative unfold involving him and Edie Martell (Miranda MacDougall).
In the finale, Lucas and Edie shared a kiss- right after he agreed to accompany her to New York.
With his term as Governor nearing its end, this also meant he could embrace the possibility of finding love again after the heartbreak with Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow).
Here’s What Happened In The Season Finale
Lucas informed the residents of Hope Valley that he would be resigning as governor at the conclusion of his term. At that moment, he also backed Mayor Maisie Hickam (Samantha Ferris) from Benson Hills for the governorship.
During his address, he expressed gratitude to everyone for their support throughout his term, but he took a moment to highlight one individual in particular. Although he didn’t mention Edie’s name directly, it was clear to everyone that Lucas was referring to her.
He referred to Edie as his “North Star” and enthusiastically stated, “Her brilliance, determination, sheer grit, and grace illuminated the path and will forever inspire me.”
What Does All This Mean?
So, with all of this having happened, what does this all mean? Lucas’s move to New York doesn’t necessarily mean that McNally is permanently out of When Calls the Heart.
As of now, there’s no confirmation right after the finale that the actor won’t make a return. This gives us a glimmer of hope, although it’s possible he might be absent occasionally.
Keep in mind that there are several ways the story could evolve with him, such as a time jump. This means he and Edie might return and be settled in Hope Valley by the premiere.
Lucas And Edie May Return
On one side, Lucas and Edie might only be away for a few months, according to her initial plan. After their time in New York, they could come back to Hope Valley and embark on the next chapter of their lives together.
However, they might also feel compelled to continue their legal aid efforts in New York, leading to an extended stay. Another reason to believe Chris could remain a part of this universe for the long haul?
He has a rich history of collaborating with Hallmark on various projects. Until we receive official news of his departure, we will keep our hopes alive.
