The man accused of killing Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, grabbed the attention of true crime followers a day ago. Notably, it had nothing to do with any new evidence, but with his defense lawyer. Read on to find out why true crime followers seem so irritated about it.

Who Is The Defense Lawyer?

Attorney, Skye Lazaro, kickstarted the Kouri Richins case but stepped back, citing an “irreconcilable and nonwaivable situation.” That arose after Richins’ preliminary hearing. Per KUTV News, the actual specific reasons were not clearly stated.

Anyway, Kathryn Nester, a founder of Nester/Lewis, PLLC, took over. You should note that Skye is not involved with the accused killer of Charlie Kirk, but Kathy is.

The reactions to her seem very intense and mixed with total frustration. Notably, frustration arrived because of procedural delays. Plus, it tied in with perceived grievances about her previous train wreck.

Ready To Slam Nester

While the Charlie Kirk case hasn’t yet reached a verdict, and won’t for a long time to come, viewers were only too ready to give their verdict on Kathy Nester.

When NewsNation streamed a hearing on whether the case of Tyler Robinson should be open to the public or not, the comments lit up with irritated viewers.

To understand the irritation, let’s take a look back at the Kouri Richins case. Remember, she’s on trial for allegedly murdering her husband with fentanyl. Well, part of the irritation with Nester came because of her defense strategy.

Feelings About Kouri’s Case

Actually, true crime viewers felt that she seemed way too aggressive and theatrical with state witnesses. Additionally, she filed the now-infamous “Walk the Dog” motion, accusing prosecutors of misconduct based on a letter Richins wrote to her mom. The motion was denied, but the damage was already done.

During the March 13 hearing, the reaction to Kathy Nester representing Tyler Robinson seemed mostly negative. In fact, commenters accused her of running the same old playbook.

The heat from viewers started when Kathy Nester filed a motion to delay Robinson’s preliminary hearing, She argued that her team hadn’t received critical federal forensic files from the ATF and FBI.

Delaying Tactics?

“We continue to work on this issue with the state,” she said. “We don’t have most of the underlying data.” While it’s standard legal procedure, viewers saw it differently. In fact, they accused her of bad-faith stalling tactics. And, that tactic seems very similar to that of Kouri Richins.

“Here we go again,” one viewer wrote. “The Richins lawyer is back to stalling. This family deserves justice now.”

Apart from that, the judge opened his hearing with a lecture about a “standing decorum order.” Both teams of legal eagles were warned about “hot mics” and lip-readers. For true crime commenters, it almost made folks think that Nester already alienated the court, and the judge loses patience.

Already Irritating The Judge?

One example comment came when a viewer retorted, “You can tell the judge is sick of her. He shouldn’t have to tell an attorney how to behave on camera.” Meanwhile, others noted that perhaps if that’s the case, it might hurt Tyler Robinson in the long run.

Clearly, folks think that Tyler could do a lot better. After all, Kathy Nester seems to leave a legacy of liability. In fact, many of them felt that never in their lives would they choose to have Kathy defending them.

That’s because it seems she focuses on delays and theatrics, and that’s not always a good, solid way to approach a defense case. Well, the Robinson-Charlie Kirk case now moves forward with strict schedules. Not wanting any delays, the judge wants the preliminary hearing to start by April 17.

Other Reactions

For Kathy Nester, keeping up with the challenges of evidence now seems complicated by public perceptions. Certainly, in the internet room of armchair jurors, she’s definitely going to be a problem.

Here are a few more reactions from the discussion:

  • Lead attorney, Kathryn N. Nester. The other attorney is Wendy M. Lewis. Same attorneys for Kouri Richins. Nester was appointed by the court.
  • The defendant would be better off asking for a trial by the judge only, and throwing himself at the mercy of the court. This attorney will only do damage this his case. She is incompetent and unlikable. I guess no one else would take the case, and she wants the notoriety.
  • she’s rude, condescending to the state witnesses. Plus she doesn’t have proper verbal communication skills in court. The judge has to correct her constantly.
  • OMG. It’s loudmouth Nextor from the Kouri Richins trial!
  • I just commented the same thing I said well this guy is going to prison because she’s a horrible lawyer…
  • Ewwww it’s [the lawyer] from Kouri case. Dude you’re screwed.
