Tony Carruthers Case Starts More Debate Over Lethal Injections

Multiple outlets reported that Tony Carruthers wasn’t executed on Thursday, but it wasn’t out of forgiveness. Rather, Governor Bill Lee granted a one-year stay of execution because officials botched the administration of the lethal injection.

Per CBS News, Tennessee officials spent more than an hour trying to establish the IV access needed for the lethal injection. Reportedly, they managed a primary line but couldn’t establish the required backup line. Anyway, Carruthers lives a few more month for the murder of Delois Anderson, Marcellos Anderson, and Frederick Tucker.

Actually, while the appalling failures were carried out, it might help his defense in the long run. If you don’t know, they hope for new DNA evidence to help clear his name.

And in fact, he never confessed to the crime. Meanwhile, his co-accused, James Montgomery was released after a retrial in 2015.
