The Rookie Cast Member’s Real Life Daughter Stars In Season 8

The Rookie has a special meaning to fan fave Mekia Cox, no other cast member has this kind of special connection to the primetime TV series. 

Not even Nathan Fillion!  Mekia Cox’s character Nyla Harper has been pregnant both times the actress was pregnant in real life.  Now, Mekia’s baby girl in real life is being featured on The Rookie Season 8!

Mekia Cox’ Pregnancies On The Rookie

Mekia Cox has been a member of The Rookie cast for several seasons and fans adore her character Nyla Harper, one of the female cops on the force.  Harper has had two children on The Rookie, and her pregnancies were written in to feature the actress’ real life baby bump. 

In 2022 Harper’s home birth on The Rookie made headlines because the producers used clips from her real home birth with her daughter earlier that year.

The Rookie Season 8 just returned to ABC primetime this month and the cast has been doing the press rounds and promoting the new episodes. 

Mekia Cox sat down with People Magazine and shared some upcoming spoilers and talked about what’s to come for her character Nyla Harper.

Nyla Harper’s Future On The Rookie Season 8

Mekia revealed that her character will be going through a bit of a career crisis after becoming a mom of two. 

Nyla Harper has two daughters she has to come home to every night, but she is itching to get back on the streets and be a part of the action again on the ABC primetime show.  

Cox dished, “There’s a little bit of twinge of her starting to miss her high stakes, old undercover life a little bit.  She kind of tries to get back there a little bit and into that element.  You get to see her daughter again, both daughters again — one also being my daughter in real life.  Personally, that’s also wonderful.”
