As the royal rift continues, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly reconsidering spending Christmas with the Royal Family.
Although Harry is said to be eager to introduce his children to the joys of a traditional Sandringham Christmas, the ongoing family tensions may have convinced him that this isn’t the right year.
Perhaps by next Christmas, with a little effort on both sides, the situation will have improved enough for Harry to finally get his wish.
For now, however, it looks like the Sussexes could be spending the holidays away from the royals.
Key Takeaways
- Harry reportedly wants a Sandringham Christmas.
- Meghan and Harry may avoid royal tensions.
- Palace rules could complicate a reunion.
- California remains a possible holiday destination.
- The Sussexes may celebrate with Doria.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Want To Avoid An Awkward Christmas
According to a source, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex aren’t eager to deal with more royal family drama this Christmas.
Instead, they’re reportedly considering celebrating at the Northamptonshire cottage where they’re said to be staying or returning to California.
Their hesitation apparently comes down to the prospect of facing uncomfortable palace rules and family expectations.
A palace insider reportedly explained that the monarchy operates under a strict hierarchy, with King Charles ultimately making the decisions.
In other words, Harry and Meghan may feel it’s better to avoid putting themselves in another difficult position.
Palace Rules Could Be A Sticking Point
Reports surrounding Harry and Meghan’s alleged July visit with King Charles and their children suggested the couple faced certain conditions before meeting with him.
One of the most important reportedly involved respecting the privacy of the meeting.
That would mean keeping the details out of the press rather than allowing another round of royal revelations to dominate the headlines.
Of course, given everything that has happened since Harry released Spare, it’s not difficult to understand why privacy might be a sensitive issue for the palace.
Then again, Harry and Meghan may not appreciate being told what they can and cannot discuss.
It’s a complicated situation, and neither side appears particularly eager to give ground.
Will Harry Ever Get His Sandringham Christmas?
Even if Harry received an invitation to Sandringham, there’s no guarantee Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their family would be enthusiastic about a reunion.
The relationship between the brothers remains strained, at least according to ongoing reports.
That could make a traditional royal Christmas rather uncomfortable for everyone involved.
Instead, Harry and Meghan may choose a quieter celebration with their children.
Perhaps they’ll spend another Christmas in California with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
At least that would allow the family to enjoy the holidays without worrying about royal protocol or another round of uncomfortable headlines.
Annemarie’s Take
I think Harry would genuinely love to give his children the experience of a traditional Sandringham Christmas.
But I also think he’s going to have to accept that things can’t simply return to the way they were before he and Meghan stepped away from royal duties.
There has been too much said publicly, and rebuilding trust takes time.
As for the palace rules, I don’t think asking for privacy during a family visit is unreasonable. After everything that’s happened, I can understand why King Charles might want some assurances.
Still, Christmas is supposed to be about family, and it’s unfortunate that the Sussexes and the royals remain so divided.
What do you think? Should King Charles invite Harry and Meghan to Sandringham for Christmas, or is it better for everyone if they celebrate separately?
