Invictus Games will be heading back to the UK in 2027, but before that time comes, it’s already enveloped in a series of new controversies.
For one: it’s believed that sponsors aren’t lining up for the charity anymore, thanks to the belief that it’s become a platform to furnish Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s egos.
The games was founded over a decade ago as a way to give purpose to injured veterans, and while it’s is an extremely beautiful platform, it’s been backsliding in recent years.
In fact, calls for Harry to be dropped from the organization, which he founded by the way, have been happening on and off over the years.
Royal Book Claims Meghan Markle Sees Invictus Games As Platform To Stroke Her Ego
Writing in ‘Betrayal,’ biographer Tom Bower explained how Harry allowed Meghan to shift the spotlight of Invictus from the veterans to herself.
According to the book, Meghan allegedly wanted to use the “global stage” Invictus Games offers “for genuine admiration and cheering fans.”
He said: “Meghan needed a global stage for genuine admiration and cheering fans. To her good fortune, Harry agreed that she could star at the Invictus Games, which he was about to open in Canada. Just before flying up to Vancouver in a private jet, she alerted her Instagram followers.”
Prince Harry Fires Back For What He Sees As “Deeply Disrespectful” Coverage Surrounding Invictus Games
Following the report published by The Times, Harry’s spokesperson fired back, demanding that attention should stay on the right people.
A spokesperson for the Invictus Games Foundation said: “It is disappointing to see The Times give prominence to commentary that appears driven by a long-established agenda rather than a genuine understanding of the Invictus Games and the community it supports.”
“The Foundation exists to support the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from around the world.”
The statement then concluded: “Attempts to question the legitimacy of competitors or diminish the experiences of those living with both physical injuries and invisible wounds such as PTSD are deeply disrespectful to the men and women the Games were created for. The focus should remain where it belongs – on the courage, recovery and camaraderie of those who have served.”
