Fresh off from the Royal Family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed two truly lucrative deals with two of the biggest streaming giants in the world. In simple words, their production company Archewell Productions hit the ground running.
First year into their deal with Spotify and they were roughly booted. Netflix swiftly became their one and only source for their growing entertainment enterprise. After their deal ended, they were offered a much-smaller renewal, and now, flies on the wall say that even that is no longer on the board.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “Tried To Blame Others” For Their Ruined Netflix Deal
Archewell Productions is not doing so well these days, especially since its last remaining partner Netflix is reportedly exiting the chat.
Royalist’s Tom Sykes was privileged to gain a conversation with Matt Donnelly, chief correspondent of Variety Magazine, where they proceeded to discuss the current state of the Sussexes’ deal with Netflix.
If you can remember, Variety was the publication that broke the news signaling that Netflix is done with the Sussexes.
Summarizing their chat, Sykes said: “He tells me how the Sussexes have ‘tried to shift blame’ for some of the failures that have happened on their watch, he tells me that top talent does not want to work with them because they just do not need ‘an added layer of headache’.”
On The Royalist podcast, Donnelly revealed, “Netflix kind of went all in on Meghan and Harry in a way they have not on most creatives, and with that has come a lot of visibility and truth into how they operate as creatives. The ultimate verdict is that they are a bit tiresome, and what this partnership has produced has not quite been meaningful.”
In addition to the couple’s failure to consistently create content that will engage with a wide range of audiences, Donnelly further claimed that A-list talent no longer wants to work with them.
“I can absolutely see talent not wanting the added layer of headache. These are a highly scrutinised couple and press breaks bad around them. It might be a curse of how they’re covered!”
On top of this, The Chief Correspondent also criticized their approach to influencing projects as being “too invasive.”
