Law enforcement stopped a suspected New Year’s Eve attack in North Carolina before it happened. The true crime suspect is 18-year-old Christian Sturdivant from Mint Hill. But, it’s important to know that he was already known to the FBI from when he was a juvenile. Read on for more details.
Not The First Violent Plot
Reuters reported that it wasn’t the first time that Sturdivant planned a violent attack. Actually, he might have only been about 15 in 2022, when he first arrived with massive red flags. Allegedly, he’d decided to attack and kill a neighbor. Thanks to family negotiation, instead of being charged, the minor underwent some sort of psychological treatment.

Fortunately, Christian Sturdivant was on the radar of the cops because when he resurfaced, he’d thought he was plotting an ISIS attack with real people. However, he outlined his plot to kill folks, and mentioned that he’d already gotten all his equipment ready. In fact, he was busy communicating with the FBI and other law enforcement officers who worked undercover.
New Attack Planned For Maximum Victims
The true crime could have happened either at a “grocery store” in Mint Hill, Charlotte, North Carolina, or “a restaurant.” However, he selected the grocery store for maximum potential fatalities. The plot? Well, he was planning on stabbing more than a dozen folks who might not be Muslim, belonging to the LGBTQ+ community, or who served in law enforcement.
A search revealed that inside his home, the weapons for the alleged nasty crime attack were found. They included “knives…hammers and targets.” Taken to court on Friday, the “Burger King” worker apparently wasn’t working with real ISIS operators at all, and for now, it seems he hatched the plan himself.
Planned For Years
Plus, it seems he’d planned the attack for possibly two years. So that means he very soon started more crime after his first red flag plot in 2022. Still, a magistrate that was first approached didn’t want to commit the young man. However, the FBI pulled some strings and got him locked up.
Certainly it’s a trial to watch for. Unless, of course, he tries and gets the mental health issue and competency reasons ruled in his favor. Well, it’s fortunate that law enforcement prevented the crime from happening. However, folks seem very angry about it.
Viewers React
When NBC News’ YouTube covered the story, one viewer opined, “probably not committed by the same ‘judge’ that-isn’t-even-a-lawyer who freed Iryna’s killer.”
Here are a few other responses from the discussion:
- Thank God. Our cyber undercover agents are working overtime to find these terrorists.
- What a coward, lock him up for good.
- Death penalty anyone who’s contemplating these kind of things should instantly receive the death penalty.
- he has been on the FBI watch list since he was 14 that is probably why he couldn’t get a firearm because he was on a no sale list especially if he was involuntarily committed the first time. this individual is a threat to society and should never be let out of prison.
