Nancy Guthrie Update: Forensic Expert Retraces Abduction Timeline?

Expert in forensic analysis suggests blood at the threshold of Nancy Guthrie's abduction indicated a 'slow-moving' event.

The Nancy Guthrie missing person investigation ran on for 52 days so far, and now, it seems that interpretation of blood evidence might help the FBI. Okay, we get it, so much new information arrived that seemingly went nowhere. However, every little bit helps. Read on for more details.

Why Is The Blood So Important?

It’s interesting that while Pima County Sheriff racks up some heat for the handling of the case, more details start sliding out. For example, it seems that the blood at the front door tells an important story that relates to what went down.

Actually, it’s not any sort of bombshell news, but clarity helps create a better picture of the abduction. Of course, if ever a suspect is located, then perhaps it will come in useful for a court case.

Blood Inside The Front?

True crime followers already knew about the blood. However, during her Drop Dead Serious podcast on Tuesday, Ashleigh Banfield confirmed through sources that the blood trail actually started inside the front entrance. That would be where you greet visitors to your home.

Apparently, the blood pattern inside matches the one outside. She explained that the circular droplets continue over the threshold and down the front walk.

Telling A Story Timeline?

More importantly, what seems interesting isn’t so much about where they found the blood, but where they didn’t find it. By now, most people know that it seems Nancy Guthrie was taken from her bed in the early hours of the morning. However, there wasn’t any blood at all in the bedroom, kitchen, or living areas.

Explaining it better, Ashleigh brought in a forensic expert named Dr. Peter Valentin. Again, followers heard that droplets were round and probably came from above. So, he interpreted it as a “slow” event, and possibly not a super-fast abduction. That conclusion arrived because there were some signs of a bit of secondary spatter.

Important Points

Here are a few things that he mentioned:

  • What I see are called skeletonized droplets. They look partially dried. You’ll see a perimeter stain-the exterior of the circle and then an absence of blood in the middle. That means the droplet was on the surface long enough for the drying process to begin, and then something disturbed it.
  • These drip stains don’t tell us what happened – what the injury was, what the attack was. What they do for us investigatively is tell us what’s the movement post-event, post-injury. They tell us who’s going where.
  • Having…Guthrie’s DNA on the inside of the threshold and on the outside tells us she’s at the threshold of the house. What’s interesting is: if she’s on the inside long enough for blood droplets to accumulate there, and on the outside long enough for blood droplets to accumulate there, there’s an inference we can draw.
  • There’s a phrase I use: it’s a ‘not insignificant amount of time.’ It’s a period that’s not momentary. I don’t know how long it is, but I know it’s not insignificant. She’s there long enough for that blood to accumulate.

Possiblities In the Abduction

Is it earth-shattering information? Well, not really, but unraveled and in simple terms, it possibly means that someone entered through an open door. In the past few days, news emerged that Nancy didn’t always lock her back door.

Then, it’s possible the abductor took her to the front door where an injury happened. Then, he took her through the front door, where she bled some more. Alternatively, someone woke her at the front door and she opened it. Then, an altercation drew blood before the presumed duo moved off.

What Do Viewers Make Of It?

Here are some reactions from the comments section that help bring a bit of clarity about why it matters.

One person asked, “That’s odd why no blood in the bedroom if that’s where they took her from[?]” And that indicates the confused timeline of the whole case.

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • As an RN that took care of the elderly, this my theory. They take her to the door when she starts to fight back, they wack her probably on the face. This is why the blood drops are so big. The face is the only place that would bleed so quickly with big drops because circulation to the head is so intense. The blood could have come from the nose or lips.”
  • Held her at the door waiting for the other guy and a car to pick her up[?]
  • They were trying to remove her out the front door and she didn’t want to go, that’s my assumption! She was resisting! Maybe her arms is what was bleeding! Hopefully they didn’t hit her!
  • What if Nancy went to front door and opened it? Maybe she was hit in the face or over the head at the front door.
  • “It sounds like they entered through the back and removed her through the front out to the car. It’s gotta be someone who knew about … the back door.
