Nancy Guthrie Update: Retired FBI Agent Weighs In On Mexico Theory

New FBI insights reveal Mexico border theory in Savannah Guthrie's mom's disappearance.

True Crime Update on Nancy Guthrie - Mexico - via FBI

True crime fatigue sets in with Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared in Tucson, and some folks even start complaining about why she’s in the headlines all the time. After all, less well-known folks disappear all the time.

Well, many others seem desperate for information that might help resolve the case, and this week, some newer updates arrived. Read on to find out more.

New Updates By Brian

On Wednesday night, Brian Entin shared another update on his Brian Entin Investigates channel on YouTube. And, he brought in a retired FBI agent, Jeff Cortez, who weighed in on the possibility of concluding the hunt for Savannah Guthrie’s mom.

Brian talked about Mexico, which shouldn’t be startling, considering many true crime followers already played around with the idea of Nancy being taken south of the border. However, it seems that the FBI now looked into that possibility very seriously.

The Mexican Angle

According to Cortez, if he were the abductor, he might head south immediately. Apparently, the FBI’s in direct communication with Mexican authorities.

Cortez explained “getting into Mexico is going to be for the most part much easier than coming into the United States.”

Additionally, talking about Nancy Guthrie with mobility problems, he said, “Keeping in mind that she’s 84. You know, she’s not going to be able to walk in. Like, she doesn’t have that kind of mobility.”

Plus, he felt that an old lady in a car wouldn’t be a big problem to drive through the border. Then, although old age can be a bit complex, Cortez felt that “none of that should preclude them from being able to seamlessly get into Mexico.”

Of course, the kidnapper left Nancy’s medication at her home. But, if she’s in Mexico, meds are relatively easy to get.

DNA Updates

Brian Entin also gave a few other updates and mentioned the “investigative genetic genealogy” in the case. Apparently, it’s the same forensic technology used in the Bryan Kohberger case.

Brian confirmed that investigators currently analyze the DNA evidence found inside the Guthrie residence. With that, potentially, a match from the “unknown male profile” inside the home could lead to a major breakthrough in the true crime abduction.

Polygraph Updates

You might have heard about some folks being polygraphed near the home of Nancy Guthrie. Well, Brian confirmed that polygraph tests take place behind the scenes.

Reminding true crime followers that lie detector results aren’t admissible in court, he noted that the FBI uses them to clear people in the area. Naturally, that helps narrow down the list of potential suspects.

The Amateurs &  Professionals

Another rather interesting discussion also arrived between Entin and Cortez. It came when they talked about social media commenters who wonder about the professionalism of the intruder seen on the surveillance camera.

Well, the duo agreed that the intruder looked clumsy. If you feel frustrated that your thoughts aren’t being considered, take heart. Cortez suggested that even an amateur could be “true crime savvy” these days just by watching documentaries.

Viewers React

Reactions to the Nancy Guthrie updates brought reactions from viewers that seemed mixed between hope and frustration.

One viewer opined, “EXCELLENT interview, Brian! Having a retired FBI agent who knows the Tucson terrain explains so much about why the border is such a major concern right now.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • Jeff was a very good guest. Very respectful. Well spoken. Answered questions but drew a line when it came to confusing things by adding a theory.
  • If she was taken at 3am and only being 60miles from the border, Nancy could’ve been hours into mexico by the time her friend and family realized she was missing.
  • Thank you so much for caring about Nancy and her family. I love true reporting and you’re number one on my list. Keep up the genuine reporting.
