As the investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie nears its fourth week, the journalists in Tucson seem tired and frustrated with few new developments. But, there is an interesting new angle. Read on for more details.
The Abductor Wasn’t Alone?
Late last week, it seemed that investigators consider it a big possibility that whoever took the mom of Savannah Guthrie wasn’t acting alone. Previously, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office hadn’t mentioned it. But that changed recently.
Before a well-deserved break this weekend, Brian Entin spoke about it on his Brian Entin Investigates podcast on YouTube. On Friday, he reported from near the memorial site at Nancy Guthrie’s home.

After recapping a bit, a retired FBI agent, Eric Dickerson, experienced in cross-border cases joined Brian. The independent reporter talked about how the sheriff isn’t “ruling out the possibility that more than one person may be involved.”
A Team Effort
During the discussion, Dickerson opined that an abduction probably needed a team. After all, he noted, “you need somebody to drive the car.”
Next, he mentioned that possibly the abductor needed additional support. After all, it’s no easy feat to remove a reluctant adult out of their home against their will.
An Amateur?
So far, true crime sleuths from their homes opined that the masked and gloved intruder captured on video surveillance seemed amateurish. And, they based that on the way he hid the lens with a bunch of plants.
Well, as far as Dickerson’s concerned, that could be an underestimation of the man. After all, it was just a few seconds of video that showed that.
Next, he mentioned that investigators make little progress. Notably, the police still “[struggle] for additional evidence or clues,” which means they successfully evaded a massive manhunt. Could an amateur do that?
The Cross-Border Theory Revisited
Apart from the third-party involvement that recently arrived, the duo also discussed the theory of a cross-border operation.
Dickerson, who previously led a cross-border task force, agreed that it’s “not impossible to cross with a victim.” Plus, in his experience, it certainly wouldn’t be the first time.
Interestingly, he doesn’t believe this ties into any cartel abduction. From his perspective, the Nancy Guthrie case simply “doesn’t fit the mold” of organized crime.

Finding A Motive Is Crucial
Obviously, everyone seems to be fumbling in the dark. And, unless the FBI and other law enforcement can actually discover a motive, there’s a probability that Nancy might never be found.
He said the “key indicator” lies in the motive. So, it’s important to establish what was behind it. For example, money, ideology, or a personal vendetta.
Touching On The DNA
Once again, Brian Entin touched on the DNA. Actually, there are a few reports floating around that more than one person’s sample was taken from Nancy Guthrie’s home. Nevertheless, Brian didn’t mention that.
Perhaps it’s not verifiable. However, he reminded his viewers that random biological evidence found at the scene didn’t “belong to Nancy Guthrie” or her family members.
As for the “investigative genetic genealogy” previously used in an Idaho case, it takes a lot of time for results. So, he didn’t elaborate any further. After all, it’s pretty much a guessing game for now.
The Burglary Gone Wrong Theroy
The true crime community becomes increasingly skeptical of a previously reported “burglary gone wrong” angle.
Well, Entin and Dickerson also talked a bit about that. In fact, they didn’t really buy into it. But, they admitted that a lack of “proof of life” or direct communication makes the case that much harder for investigators.
Viewers React
As for the possibility of a third party being involved, one commenter opined, “It’s pretty brazen to walk into a residential neighborhood with a ski mask on and basically your gun exposed.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- Of course it was probably more than one person involved! I hope they’re not just coming up with that theory now!
- Someone has to be stupid not to know that there’s more than one person involved.
- The sheriff is stating the obvious. One person couldn’t do the whole thing. He is just giving little nuggets to give the appearance he knows something.
