Nancy Guthrie: Did Fake FBI Agents Visit A Local Home?

Neighbors recall strange man sightings and a confusing FBI encounter in the search for Savannah Guthrie's missing mother.

Nancy Guthrie Stange FBI Incident

The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie seemed much quieter on day 37, so a journalist chatted with a local about it. Well, this week a strange story arrived from the quiet Tucson neighborhood. Read on for more details.

The Mid-January Timeline

This week, Brian Entin on his Investigates channel chatted with a neighbor and it seems as if the Catalina Hills neighborhood isn’t always a sleepy place. It came when he discussed some odd things that went down before the supposed abduction of Savannah Guthrie’s mom.

Someone named only as Aldine told Entin that she lived in the area for several decades. Then, she shared a memory from about two weeks prior to Nancy’s disappearance.

Remember, that ties into dates when the FBI allegedly asked for camera surveillance footage from locals in the area. Well, harkening back to that footage from about January 11, Aldine recalled spotting something. Notably, it seemed rather strange.

Spotting A Strange Man

Brian Entin listened as she related a story about seeing a man through her bathroom window. She described him as wearing “street clothing” rather than hiking gear.

Plus, she observed he wore a “baseball hat pulled down low.” In her take on it, he seemed to be “looking around” the street and didn’t “fit” with usual folks in the area.

Well, that wasn’t the end of the story. Law enforcement chatted with her, but seemed to lose interest when she explained her “ring camera” wasn’t working at the time.

The Confusing FBI Incident

Perhaps her next story seemed the strangest one because apparently two people arrived at her sister’s home a few days after Nancy disappeared. Apparently, they wore black hoodies with what she described as a “little FBI emblem up here.”

Once inside, the pair acted strangely. The man kept his hood up and stayed silent. They asked the homeowner if she “had a pacemaker” and insisted on looking in “her garage.” After they left, the sister felt uneasy and her daughter called for help.

A Stressful Incident

The next thing that happened was many agents and deputies arrived at her home. Interestingly, law enforcement treated the place like a crime scene. After hours of DNA swabs and taking of fingerprints, it seemed they feared non-law enforcement intruders.

However, the next day, the FBI allegedly called back and ruled out intruders, and the two people were in fact part of their department. Or at least, the woman. Notably, they didn’t mention who hoodie guy was. But, they gave the message out that everything was just fine and dandy.

Well, Nancy Guthrie’s neighbor explained, not unreasonably, that her sister felt rattled by it. Plus, she felt that the FBI seemed “rather dismissive.”

Neighborhood Theories

Next, Aldine told Entin that folks attending a neighborhood dinner chatted about what might have gone down. According to Aldine, residents felt split. “Some people are like it’s for sure a Savannah connection,” she recalled.

Meanwhile, others thought it could all be connected to a random “robbery gone bad.” Talking about the desert area with trenches, ravines, washes and river runoff, Aldine explained there were many places where folks with bad intent might lurk, rather than on main roads.

Additionally, Aldine explained that while crime isn’t high in the area, there were historical issues. For example, once, her own home became part of the case involving the “Prime Time Rapist” from the 1980s.

Back then, she believed that law enforcement seemed disorganized, much like folks perceive the Nancy Guthrie case. Certainly, it seems that history might have repeated itself.

Current Investigation Status

Apparently, the FBI visited Aldine multiple times but not in the last fortnight or so. Little progress arrived on the official state of the investigation.

A task force was formed, and the search seems focused on tech. Even a lead involving a mystery utility box near Nancy’s house ended up labeled “unrelated to Nancy’s disappearance.”

In the YouTube comments, some true crime enthusiasts wondered what the heck? After all, it seems odd that one hand doesn’t seem to know what the other is doing. After all, why such a big investigation only to report back that hoodie guy worked for the team?

One person opined, “her sister’s experience was terrifying. I’m so sorry for her sister.”

Here are a few other responses from the discussion:

  • Too trusting. Just because it says FBI doesn’t mean they are.
  • NEVER ever let anyone in your house or open the door to people without showing you valid proper ID. If you’re in doubt leave them out.
  • I can’t even believe that the sheriffs office came out and said that those were fake FBI only to turn back around and say no it was real FBI. SMDH this is absolutely unacceptable. How did these people even have their jobs if they can’t even verify that FBI was at a civilian’s home?
