The double murder of the Columbus, Ohio couple, Spencer and Monique Tepe, seems far more brutal than initial reports suggested. The full autopsy report revealed a lot more than one bullet for Monique and two for her husband. Read on for more details.
The Recap
This week, in his segment of Vinnie Politan Investigates on Court TV, Vinnie recapped the murder and reminded viewers that vascular surgeon Michael McKee, Monique’s ex was arrested as a suspect in the shocking crime.
Of course, he also mentioned that children were in the home when it all went down. Later, Court TV reporter Cody Thomas joined Vinnie in the podcast and revealed some terrible details from the official autopsy report.
The Autopsy Details
Referring to the report, Thomas related how it revealed that Spencer Tepe, 37, died from gunshot wounds. In fact, his body took way more than seven bullets and he suffered seven shots. Bullets hit him in the “head, neck, torso, and upper extremities”

Meanwhile, his wife, 39-year-old Monique Tepe, underwent much more violence. Shockingly, the autopsy confirmed she was shot nine times. One shot struck her directly “in the zygomatic region,” which is the cheekbone area of the face. Plus, she sustained wounds to her “chest, torso, arms, and her right hand.”
The Significace Of The Hand Wound
The injury to Monique’s right hand, Thomas noted, “sounds like maybe a defensive measure.” Naturally, that detail seems to make it all the more horrific in their home on December 30. “That must have been so scary for these two in that situation,” Thomas opined, especially with their children just down the hall.
Politan agreed that probably, the couple’s last thoughts were almost certainly for their kids. “I will guarantee you those are the thoughts going through the minds of Monique and Spencer at that moment. Our children. Our children, our children.”
Did McKee Expect His Arrest?
By now, true crime followers know that McKee was arrested. But, in a video that showed him being searched and booked, Vinnie opined that the suspect seemed very “comfortable” with the process. Almost as if he felt familiar with it all.

Bringing in a former homicide detective and a psychotherapist, the panel debated that, wondering if McKee believed he’d be caught. Dr. Janie Lacey said “I believe that Michael absolutely did not expect to be arrested.”
Plus, she believes that he never seemed “impulsive,” especially as he left his phone at work, and then returned to work after the alleged crime. He believed “he outsmarted everyone.”
A Counter Opinion
Then Phil Waters, a former homicide detective, weighed in with his opinion. He felt that Michael McKee feels “justified” in murdering Monique Tepe and Spencer.
Talking about other murders in the past, he noted that about half of them said they knew there would be a day of reckoning. So, he believed that Michael, with “an intellectual mind,” deep down might have suspected that one day, he’d be “held to account.”
Viewers React
In the comment section, plenty of true crime folowers chimed in their thougths. One of them wrote, “I believe Michael is so full of jealousy he didn’t care if he ultimately got caught.”
Here are a few other responses from the discussion:
- He’s not even in prison yet. The place he’s in is a brand new jail and looks like a hotel!!!!! Wait till he gets to prison ! He won’t be so calm then.
- He thought he controlled her. .he sent them into eternity TOGETHER. She was never his wife, he was her mistake.
- It always amazes me that these highly intelligent accused murderers can be so dumb to waste their whole life.
- 16 shots with a .40 or .45 is crazy. Also, depending on the type bullet it actually is… Just overkill and absolutely devastating. 16 shots will never ever be self defense. Glock has a 15 round magazines. So one in the chamber.
