Meghan Markle Hopes To Honor Princess Diana's Legacy In Her Directorial Debut

Meghan Markle is kicking 2026 off in high gear, with reports stating that she’s set her sights on producing at least two biopics before the end of the year.

One of them has a lot to do with a particular beloved late Princess, who Meghan has sometimes been compared with. Yeah, I’m talking about none other than the former actress’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Here’s everything we know about this rumored biopic in the works.

Meghan Markle Makes Big Plans To Leverage Princess Diana’s Image In Her Upcoming Project

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle closed out 2025 on rather shaky legs, with a number of staff members leaving the team. However, the Sussexes are determined to get up and stand on their own two feet as fast as possible.

Apart from producing a movie adaptation of Jasmine Guillory’s thriller ‘The Wedding Date,’ Meghan has reportedly set her sights on reinvigorating Princess Diana’s once-upon-a-time gargantuan legacy.

It’s long been rumored that the duo plan to work on a project to mark the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death, and this could certainly be it, per insiders.

“They’ve been meeting with writers, agents and producers, breaking story and talking casting,” an insider told Rob Shuter’s ShutterScoop. “Meghan is intensely hands-on and wants control from start to finish.”

Their recent projects for the global streaming platform has critically underperformed, and now they’re hinging their hopes on Princess Diana’s name to make their much-desired comeback.

“Their earlier shows underperformed, but a Diana project changes everything,” another source said.

With the way the project is said to have been structured, there’s already predictions it could possibly rival or be on par with their bombshell Oprah Winfrey tell-all. “This could be the crown jewel,” an executive source shared. “It’s the one project that could make the entire deal worth it.”

Obviously, there’s a lot of excitement resting on this, and with Meghan’s lived experience being pitted and compared to Princess Diana, there’s a lot of different angles they could choose to explore the Princess’s story from.

The last notable biopic of the late Princess of Wales was the Kristen Stewart-led feature ‘Spencer.’ Directed by Pablo Larrain, the 2021 drama explored Diana’s marriage troubles and subsequent divorce.
