Fans of The McBee Dynasty have been tracking the family’s legal troubles as closely as their reality TV exploits, and recent developments have added a fresh twist.
While Steve McBee Sr., the family patriarch, serves his prison sentence, a civil lawsuit tied to alleged fraudulent property transfers has made headlines—and a judge has just weighed in.
Steve McBee Sr.’s Plea Deal and Prison Sentence
Steve Sr. first made headlines in November 2024 when he accepted a plea deal admitting to one count of making a false statement related to federal crop insurance.
The deal required him to acknowledge receiving roughly $4 million in federal benefits he wasn’t entitled to. He was sentenced to two years behind bars.
The Controversial Property Transfers
Even while incarcerated, Steve sought to have a civil suit dismissed. The lawsuit alleges that he transferred property to his sons in an effort to avoid repaying a substantial debt owed to the government.
The case hinges on events in 2023. Federal filings reveal that Steve was informed in June 2023 about an investigation into possible crop insurance fraud involving his operations.
Later that year, he reportedly met with the government and then his sons, allegedly transferring his property interests to them to keep assets out of federal reach.
Court Rejects Dismissal Arguments
Steve Sr. argued in court that the government had no grounds for the suit. He claimed the trusts holding the properties had been established before any investigation began, and insisted he wasn’t insolvent at the time of the transfers.
The court, however, rejected these arguments, allowing the civil case to move forward.
Previously, as part of his plea deal, the U.S. government agreed not to pursue charges against Steve’s sons—Steve Jr., Brayden, Cole, and Jesse—or any other family members, related to the alleged fraud spanning January 1, 2018, through December 31, 2020, according to Progressive Farmer DTN.
Reality TV Spotlight Remains Strong
Meanwhile, the McBee family continues to attract viewers on television. Their reality series, The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, which documents the family’s life running a cattle and farming business in Missouri, moved to Bravo for its second season and has already been renewed for a third.
Fans now watch closely, not just for the family drama onscreen, but for the legal battles unfolding off it.
