Mama June Shannon’s daughter, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, has seen significant life upheavals in the last few years, turning what started as a hopeful search into sadness for her and her family.
Over the past few years, life has brought major changes for the daughter of Mama June Shannon.
From navigating a public separation to rebuilding her personal life, Lauryn has faced transition after transition. But nothing prepared her — or her followers — for the loss she confirmed this Valentine’s Day.
A Difficult Chapter for the Family
In August 2024, Lauryn and her husband of ten years, Josh Efird, revealed they were separating.
The announcement stunned fans who had followed their journey on Mama June: Family Crisis. As the season unfolded, however, it became clear the decision was rooted in doing what was best for their four children.
Not long after, Lauryn surprised many again when she began dating Josh’s cousin, Darrin Kitchens.
Despite the unexpected twist, the couple appeared happy, blending their families and stepping into a new season together. Then came Dutch.
The Search for Dutch
At the end of January 2026, Lauryn shared that her beloved dog had gone missing. She posted urgently, asking for help, offering a reward, and hoping someone would spot him. For several days, she kept her followers updated. Then, the posts suddenly stopped.
On February 14, she returned with the update no pet owner ever wants to give.
After heading out on their four-wheelers, Lauryn and Darrin made a heartbreaking discovery near their own property. She explained:
“We found Dutch laid over in the grass from being hit by a car, less than 50 feet from our gate (which we assume he was trying to make his way back home).”
The detail makes the loss even more painful — so close to safety, so close to home.
Lauryn went on to thank everyone who had sent photos, shared her posts, and supported her family during the search. But gratitude could not soften the blow. This was not the ending anyone had hoped for.
An Outpouring of Support
As soon as the news was shared, messages flooded in. Followers expressed sorrow not only for Lauryn and Darrin, but especially for their children.
One supporter wrote:
“Oh No I’m so sorry I don’t do well when it comes to animals being sick or dying so I’m keeping you and your family in my thoughts today and I hope the kids are taking it ok.”
Another shared:
“Soo soo sorry Lauryn Mychelle Shannon I hope y’all can find some type of peace !. Thinking of yall !.”
And another added:
“Not the news I wanted to see! I’m so sorry!”
For many fans, losing a pet is never “just” losing an animal. It is losing a member of the family — a daily presence, a source of comfort, a piece of home.
Hoping for Peace After Tragedy
For Lauryn, who has already weathered significant life changes in recent years, this loss lands heavily. Dutch wasn’t just a dog; he was part of their family’s rhythm and routine.
Now, the focus shifts to healing — especially for the children, who must process a sudden goodbye.
Sometimes the hardest stories are the ones that end too soon. And for Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, Dutch’s story is one that will always feel unfinished — ending just steps away from home.
