Jacqueline Marie Hernandez ended up behind bars after a worst-scenario nightmare for any parent. Notably, when we talk about true crime it often involves a murder or a big heist. But, negligence that endangers a child also fits the bill. Read on to find out what happened.
A Shocking Video
This week, a video emerged that shocked a lot of people. After all, it involved a small toddler who could easily have died. According to CBS News:
An Orange County mother was arrested on Monday after a video recorded last week showed her 19-month-old child falling from a moving car and onto the road below in Fullerton.
Actually, it is a heart-stopping video and you can watch it on ABC7’s YouTube further down in this article. But, it might be a bit triggering, so caution is advised. In it, a camera captured a black SUV turning at the crossroad of N. Euclid St. and W. Malvern Ave.
Suddenly, the passenger door opened, and the baby tumbled out into the street. Literally, the child rolled around and very nearly ended up getting run over by the car behind.
No 911 Call
Jacqueline Marie Hernandez – not related to the former Telemundo executive or a girl who was kidnapped years ago, took a few seconds to get out the SUV and pick up her child. Notably, she didn’t wait for medical assistance or call 911.

Due to a witness, the police were informed about it, about only four days later. Thanks to the tip-off, police found her home in La Habra, and she was taken into custody.
Viewers React
In the comments section of the viral video, plenty of people slammed the mother of the toddler. One of them opined, “Much respect and praise for the driver following the SUV who stopped quickly averting a…tragic outcome.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- Child safety is number one. The mother failed that!!!
- She has enough money for a luxury suv but not enough common sense to put her baby in a car seat. Sometimes I think there needs to be a test or license to be a parent.
- his person should be required to get tubes tied and not be allowed to be anyone’s caregiver. Nice car but no child safety seat?! Crazy world!
While true crime fans love any sort of story about law-breaking, this incident wasn’t making anyone smile, as you can see. After all, the 19-month-old suffered some injuries in the fall. However, doctors feel confident that the child will recover soon.
Reviewing The Case
Authorities can only think that the child was either incorrectly or not restrained at all. And, what about the child locks? It seems likely that they were probably off as well.
Orange County Deputy District Attorney officials currently review the case to figure out the options for raising charges. At the moment, it seems that she might end up charged with “felony child abuse.” Jacqueline Marie Hernandez was later released after posting bond.
