In Wayne County, Utah, three local women were found dead and a suspect, Ivan Miller, 22, who hails from Iowa potentially faces three counts of murder. The true crime spree left residents in the area terrified as it seemed a serial killer was in the area. Read on for more developments in the case.
Suspect Tracked To Colorado
According to a report by FOX 13 News Utah, the case broke when “officials… caught the suspect for three deaths in Wayne County.” Located in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, the vehicle was tracked with cameras.
Incredibly, the man has no known connection with any of the victims. And, the randomness of the attacks seemed terrifying. Out of nowhere, on Wednesday, terrible stories emerged. Two of the victims, 65-year-old Linda Dewey and 34-year-old Natalie Graves, walked along the Cockscomb Trail.

Unfortunately, they never returned. Alarmed, their concerned husbands set off in search of them. However, they “found them deceased” and called the police right away. While checking on that, police also arrived at the home of 86-year-old Margaret Oldroyd in Lyman. She too, was dead.
The Motive
Court papers reveal a rather chilling aspect. That word is usually so annoying, but it really seemed fitting. Ivan Miller reportedly told police that he ran out of luck as his truck broke down. Rather callously, the alleged true crime multiple murders happened because he needed a vehicle.
Seemingly cooperative during questioning, he also related how the killings “had to be done” as he needed a vehicle and money. Apparently, the timeline played out the way it did because after killing Margaret Oldroyd, he decided her car wasn’t what he wanted.
So, in search of another one, he ended up at the trail. There, his next two victims were killed. Next, he left the first stolen car at the scene and left in another one.
The Arrest
Per NBC News, after a brief search, police said they found Ivan Miller with a “concealed handgun and large knife.” So, he was arrested for possession of concealed weapons. Naturally, the small town felt hard hit by the tragic murders. Lt. Cameron Roden said that “three homicides within the past 24 hours is really scary.”
It also seems that the charges are firearm related for now, but expect murder charges once he’s extradited back to Utah.
Viewers React
When Law&Crime Network posted their report on YouTube, plenty of people weighed in on the horrific true crime. One of them commented, “Imagine going for a hike with a friend to just be murdered, what’s this world coming to[?]”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- This is why I stopped doing outdoor activities alone. Even with a friend you need to be ready to defend your life.
- If he killed 3 in just that small of an area, he definitely has more out there. Who knows how much ground he has covered?
- I live in Pagosa Springs and this is shocking. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.
- Tuscon needs to send someone to Colorado to check this guy out. He targeted on 80 year old woman. [re Nancy Guthrie].
Other Utah Crime
One commenter asked, “WHAT IS HAPPENING TO UTAH PEOPLE???”
Well, that’s not a silly question. Right now, the Kouri Richins murder by fentanyl case plays out in court. Plus, the case of “Doomsday Mom” involved Lori Vallow Daybell who took her kids and they ended up in an orphanage in Croatia. And, who can forget the assassination of Charlie Kirk?
