According to new evidence brought before the court, Prince Harry’s legal team happened to contain one convicted phone hacker, and that convicted phone hacker happened to call up a former Mail boss to threaten him into co-operation. Here’s the situation as it stands.
Prince Harry’s Legal Researcher Made Disturbing Phone Calls To Former Mail Boss
The court recently heard that a convicted phone hacker working for Prince Harry and other celebrities brazenly tried to blackmail a Daily Mail executive.
Just a quick catch-up: Prince Harry, Elton John, Baroness Lawrence and several other high profile claimants are suing the publishers of Daily Mail over issues relating to the invasion of privacy.
According to the high profile claimants, the Daily Mail acquired dozens of information through notorious methods, including the hacking of phones and the unlawful placement of listening devices.
On the court seating held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, the former associate editor at the Mail on Sunday, Chris Anderson revealed that he received a disturbing call in 2016 from Graham Smith, who tried to threaten him by mentioning a cache of emails that would be “very embarrassing” for him.
Johnson then informed Anderson that if he proved co-operative, then he would happily bury the incriminating emails – said to contain material obtained through phone hacking.
“I was left with the clear impression that Mr Johnson had been trying to blackmail me,” Andersen continued.
It is reported that Johnson has spent years targeting The Mail, following his conviction for phone hacking in 2014.
He once prided himself for running a “team of 10 whistleblowers and researchers,” thanks to the funds supplied by Max Mosley, the former Formula 1 chief, and son of fascist Oswald Mosley.
With all this power and money behind him, he then launched a carefully orchestrated “co-ordinated media attack” on the newspaper group.
In addition to this, Johnson was convinced that Anderson’s unlawful activities would be enough to launch a legal case against the Mail.
“He (Johnson) said he was ‘authorised’ to tell me that if I co-operated with his enquiries into the Mail group, then the emails would be kept private,” Anderson wrote.
“He wanted to expose phone hacking within the Daily Mail. I suggested he was threatening me.”
