GH Writers Explain Drew Villain Transformation, Why Billy Miller’s Hero Became Cameron Mathison’s Baddie

General Hospital Writers Explain Drew Villain Transformation, Why Billy Miller’s Hero Became Cameron Mathison’s BaddieGeneral Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that many fans have often wondered why the show chose to trash Drew Cain’s (Cameron Mathison) character and take him in such a menacing direction.

Drew was a good guy back when Billy Miller was playing the role, but the character ultimately underwent a villainous transformation.

However, there’s a reason for this massive character shift. Thankfully, it’s time for an explanation regarding this major Drew makeover and all the wild plot developments that followed.

In an interview with SOD, GH Co-Head Writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten finally opened up about why Drew went from a hero to a baddie. Let’s look at what the writing duo had to say about Drew going down this villainous road.

For starters, Van Etten noted that the Quartermaine family really flourishes when there’s conflict at the center. Since the show no longer had a good source of Q drama, it was decided that Drew made the most sense as the family member to provide it.

“Drew, to me, seemed positioned best, as a newcomer to the family and as a relative outsider within it — and with a really blank slate of a past — to step into the role as an antagonist, or an adversary from within,” Van Etten said.

Korte echoed that idea by suggesting the Quartermaine clan needed someone to fill the role that characters like A.J. Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) and Alan Quartermaine (John Ingle) had played in the past.

Of course, once the decision was made to take Drew down this path, it became easy to lean into Drew’s need for Willow Tait’s (Katelyn MacMullen) “hero worship” and have things snowball from there.

Although Cameron Mathison’s Drew now feels totally different than the one Billy Miller portrayed, Korte insisted the transformation was rooted in “intrinsic character traits.”

As for Drew’s future, there’s no sign of redemption in sight. Drew finally broke free of the paralysis Willow forced upon him, but he hasn’t turned from his wicked behavior and is honestly even worse in some ways!

General Hospital spoilers say Drew will continue to make manipulative moves and cause disturbing news for certain enemies, so stay tuned. SOS will have all the hottest General Hospital spoilers and news you’re looking for, so drop by often for more GH details.
