General Hospital spoilers report serious upheaval among fans as the base is torn in two over whether Nathan West’s (Ryan Paevey) role revival is bound for disaster.
When the fans first heard Nathan was coming back to town alive and well, we all questioned whether it was going to be some kind of scheme.
Is it really Nathan? Will he be there genuinely trying to rebuild his life, or secretly scheming behind everyone’s backs?
The prevailing theory anymore is that Nathan is either Nathan, but modulated from those seven missing years of his life, or it’s his evil brother Peter August (Wes Ramsey) in disguise. The real kicker is that we don’t know if Nathan is aware of any of this.
Just because he may be “modulated” or a straight up imposter doesn’t mean that his psyche is aware of that fact or the role he is playing in deceiving the people who love him.
A Little Tweak
It could be that Nathan really is Nathan, in the flesh, so to speak. It could be that this is really his body, not some recreation of it.
But at the same time, that doesn’t mean the mind operating behind his steely blue eyes is the one he had when the lights went out after his father brutally shot and killed him.
Or so we thought. It’s possible that pops had some sort of whacky technology in the works that would have brought his boy in blue back to life with someone else manning the ship.
GH Spoilers Spill We Kind of Miss Peter
If I’m being honest, I think the fan base has evolved from its days of being on the edge of our seats over Cesar Faison (Anders Hove. Sure, any time they bring back an old villain, it’s nostalgic.
But Peter’s long-winded and nefarious schemes were much more elaborate and baked into a variety of veins in Port Charles.
He wasn’t just fooling Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), but Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening), Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and many more. His return would likely be welcomed by the base.
What Nathan Doesn’t Know Will Still Hurt Us
Even if Nathan isn’t aware that he is programmed to behave the way he is, the downfall of his return and whatever is happening here is bound to be cataclysmic. What will he do if it turns out he’s some sort of software programmed experiment without a real soul on board?
How will he proceed, or will it not affect him because he is programmed? Even so, others around him may come to know he’s nothing more than a bot, a hard drive — not human or spiritual in the way the rest of us are. And that’s dangerous.
