General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal Chris McKenna (Jack Brennan) responded to fan criticism by explaining that Jack’s personal pain wouldn’t be there if the relationship was merely a tactic.
Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) heard Jack tell WSB Director Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) that he was only dating Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) to gather information on Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
The Twist Should Have Been A Clean One, But Fell Flat
The twist should have been a clean one, but it fell flat because the scene stuck in the viewers’ minds.
Jack picked Carly even though it made his life harder, telling her he loves her, and suddenly the audience was expected to think it was all an act.
This disconnect prompted Chris McKenna to take to social media, where he chose to engage in the conversation.
Fans were upset after Josslyn heard Jack say he was dating Carly to gather intel on Sonny. McKenna took to social media to counter the notion that Jack’s feelings for Carly were insincere.
McKenna Said Jack’s Private Emotional Reactions Reveal Authenticity
He contended that Jack’s private emotional moments reveal authenticity, not just acting. He clarified that the editing choices obscured Jack’s true intentions compared to how they were during filming.
McKenna left the question of Jack’s feelings for Joss open, while asserting that his love for Carly is genuine.
On X, previously known as Twitter, McKenna stated, “If Jack was pretending to have feelings for Carly, why would he be fake crying and heartbroken all year with no one around? There would be no stakes with these storylines-sorry, everyone; I know some people WANT Jack to be pretending-but the show has made it absolutely clear he isn’t.”
The Fans Kept Arguing With Him, One Person In Particular
The fans engaged with him, leading the actor to respond, “Arguing with someone who has read the next 25 scripts is a bold kind of arrogance.”
A fan inquired if he anticipated the backlash from the scene, and McKenna answered, “When I saw how they edited it, I knew it would happen. It was obvious that Jack was putting on a performance when we filmed it-but with the camera far away, it wasn’t as clear.
Someone else put it more directly, saying, “Jack got in over his head and fell in love,” while another remarked, “He’s skilled at separating his personal life from his work.” McKenna joined the discussions not to solve issues, but to offer stability-he didn’t try to make Jack seem perfect.
