Genie Francis is a General Hospital legend and icon, and rightfully so. The fan fave arrived on the ABC soap opera as Laura Spencer in 1977, and next year she will celebrate her 50th anniversary in Port Charles. Genie was only 14 years old when she made her daytime debut five decades ago.
GH Star Receives Huge Honor
NATAS President Adam Sharp has confirmed that this year Genie Francis will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Daytime Emmys this Fall. And, we couldn’t think of a better person to be honored.
Sharp released an official statement reading, “We are thrilled to celebrate Genie Francis’ remarkable career.
From Port Charles and beyond, she has left an indelible mark on the landscape of daytime television, and she continues to tackle bold topics as a courageous storyteller to this day.”
Genie Francis Speaks Out
Despite spending half of a century on General Hospital, Genie Francis doesn’t seem to be interested in retiring or stepping back any time soon.
In fact, the actress is involved in several key storylines right now in Port Charles and is always shutting down rumors that she’s leaving.
After news broke that the GH actress would be honored at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, Francis released a statement to celebrate the occasion.
The Laura Spencer portrayer started off by thanking NATAS for the huge honor, and went on to reflect on her lengthy career on the soap.
Francis added, “I am deeply grateful to have been welcomed onto your television screens and into your homes for five decades; for the love, support, and loyalty I’ve been given; and for the privilege of being a small part of your lives.”
The 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards will be held on October 30. Will you be tuning in to see Genie Francis honored? Let us know down below and keep checking back here on Soap Opera Spy for more GH news and updates.
