General Hospital Alum Chad Duell Heads Back To TV In Surprising New Role

When General Hospital (GH) alum Chad Duell, who played the role of Michael Corinthos, left the ABC daytime soap in 2025, fans were shocked, but now it seems that he’s headed back to TV, but it’s not for a soap opera role. Read on for more details.

A New Project

The news that Duell has an exciting project arrived on social media, and Soap Opera Digest reported that it involves the fact that he “recently filmed a pilot for a horror-comedy mockumentary called Ghosts Are Real.”

It came in a story that he shared with his GH fans this week, and over on the Ghosts Are Real Instagram, there are several pilot projects mentioned. Soap Opera Digest identified The Scooters and noted that “Filming wrapped on September 22.”

In his story, Chad Duell had elaborated by saying, “Pilot in the books.” He also mentioned that he couldn’t wait “to share it with you all.”

The scene showed a camera following him in a typically scary scene with smoke billowing. Dressed for the part, the former General Hospital star reportedly wore “a black leather jacket and gloves,…[and] dark sunglasses.”

Changing Direction

After Chad Duell departed from General Hospital, we reported that he already had irons in other fires. In late June, he shared that he was going to do some serious music and announced a single called “If You Need Me” that launched on Spotify.

Fans wished him well because they miss him on the ABC soap. Remember, he’d played the role of Michael for over a decade when he was replaced by Rory Gibson. That came after fans gave the thumbs down to Michael being burned in a fire.

Taking A Break

Although he was reportedly shocked, Celeb Dirty Laundry reported that he said in the Daily Drama podcast that the break from GH will allow him to “spend some time in Arizona and will help him do things physically and mentally to prepare himself for the next chapters in his life.”

So, it seems that he opted to leave. But perhaps he hoped for a doorway to be kept open for a later return. However, it looks like Rory Gibson is well-settled into the role of Michael, and currently spoilers show him teaming up with Tracy (Jane Elliot) to take down Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen).

This week, GH fans saw Willow and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) together, and the idea seems to be that if he cheats with Willow, then that could help with the custody case involving Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton). Michael even offered to try and help make the plot happen.
