Another controversy is unfolding around the Duggar family, and this time it centers on Joseph Duggar.
He was arrested on March 18 over allegations that he molested a young girl years ago. Just days later, a separate set of charges—child endangerment—was added.
Authorities say the two cases are not connected, but together they’ve created a serious and complicated situation that isn’t going away anytime soon.
For a family that built its image around unity, what’s happening now feels noticeably different.
A Familiar Pattern, But a Different Response
Anyone who followed the Duggars from their 19 Kids & Counting days will remember how things unraveled before. The original show was canceled after the truth about Josh Duggar’s past came out.
Then came Counting On, which tried to shift focus to the rest of the family—until Josh’s later arrest and conviction ended that chapter too. Now, with Joseph in trouble, the family isn’t reacting the same way they did before.
Reports say that while he was in jail in Arkansas, not a single family member showed up to visit him. The only person who did was his lawyer.
That silence speaks volumes, especially for a family that has always presented a united front in public.
Some of his siblings have said something—but not in his defense. Instead, they’ve directed their thoughts and prayers toward the alleged victim.
The Allegations
The case itself is deeply disturbing. A 14-year-old girl has accused Joseph Duggar of molesting her when she was just nine. She also described what she says was a pattern of grooming.
After his arrest, he remained in custody in Arkansas for a short time before being transferred to Florida, where he’s expected to face the charges tied to those allegations.
His Only Support System
While the rest of the family seems to be keeping their distance, Joseph hasn’t been completely cut off. He’s been in regular contact with his wife, Kendra.
They’ve reportedly spoken on the phone almost every day since his arrest, even though she hasn’t visited him in person.
Some calls didn’t go through, though—and there’s a reason for that. Kendra is dealing with legal issues of her own.
Both she and Joseph are facing four counts of child endangerment and four counts of false imprisonment. The details haven’t been fully made public, but the charges are believed to involve their four children—not the girl at the center of the molestation case.
As things stand, neither of them is allowed to have contact with their kids while the investigation is ongoing.
What He’s Saying Behind Bars
During one of their calls, Joseph reportedly said he was spending 23 hours a day in solitary confinement. He told Kendra that the isolation has given him time to relax and read the Bible.
She, in turn, said she was staying in a safe and private residence after her own arrest.
What Comes Next
Joseph Duggar is now being moved to Florida, where the more serious charges will play out in court. If he’s found guilty, he could be facing years in prison.
On top of that, the separate charges involving their children could affect whether he and Kendra keep custody.
At this point, the legal process is just getting started—but the distance within the family is already clear.
And for a family that built its identity on togetherness, that might be one of the biggest shifts of all.
