Chicago Murder Suspect Flips SUV During Hollywood Police Chase

ABC7la – YouTube

A Chicago murder suspect learned the hard way that you can’t outrun the law in Los Angeles. His run ended with an SUV lying on its side on a Hollywood street.

The chase started around 11 a.m. on July 9, 2026. Los Angeles Police Department officers spotted the man near Selma Avenue and Schrader Boulevard, right by the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

According to a report by CBS News, he was driving a burgundy Dodge Durango. He didn’t pull over.

The Hollywood Crash

It didn’t last long, but it was intense. One YouTube user commenting on an ABC7 Los Angeles video recalled seeing part of it unfold.

“I was on Cahuenga & Selma at a red light when 2 unmarked cars raced passed me today,” the user wrote. They added that the “dummy from Chicago” crashed right near the Hollywood LAPDpolice station.”

The suspect didn’t get far. At the corner of Fountain Avenue and North Cherokee Avenue, the Durango slammed into a laundry van.

CBS News reported that aerial footage showed heavy front-end damage to a “purple Laundry Pop van” and the suspect’s SUV flipped onto its side in the street.

From the Wreck to Custody

Construction worker Avias Alcantara saw it happen while eating lunch in his truck.

“Everything happened fast … it was crazy,” Alcantara said. According to his account on Eyewitness News, the suspect hit the laundry truck and kept moving down Cherokee Avenue for a moment before stopping.

U.S. Marshals and LAPD officers surrounded the wrecked SUV immediately. Eyewitnesses told reporters they saw officers pull the man out of the overturned Durango. Officers helped him from the wreckage before paramedics took him away.

An ambulance took the injured suspect to a nearby hospital. According to police reports, nobody else got hurt in the wreck. That seems like a minor miracle given how fast things happened.

Heading Back East

The suspect won’t be staying in California. Authorities told CBS News they plan to send him back to Illinois as soon as hospital doctors clear him.

U.S. Marshals confirmed the man was wanted in connection with a murder investigation in Rockford, Illinois. Details about the killing remain scarce.

Another YouTube commenter pointed out the obvious legal reality of the situation. “The death happened in Chicago so it’s most likely going to Chicago to handle the case. Chicago has jurisdiction…” they posted online.

Just Another Day in LA

For viewers, it seemed like a strange twist of fate. A man travels hundreds of miles to hide in the bright lights of Hollywood, only to flip his car next to a police station.

For locals, a wild police pursuit is just another Thursday. It happens so often it barely registers as news to some residents.

As one person put it in comments, “A police chase ended in a car crash in Hollywood. Why does that sound so familiar if not normal?”

For this specific driver, the normal Hollywood routine is over. He isn’t likely to avoid facing the charges awaiting him in Illinoi. He faces extradition to Illinois once doctors clear him to travel.
