Big Brother Season 28 Premiere Recap: 3 “Reality Icons” Join Cast, Rachel Reilly’s Shocking Exit, New Survivor Replacement

Big Brother’s Season 28 kicked off on Thursday, July 9, with plenty of surprises, shockers, and a plot twist that left fans wanting more. SOS has all the scoop regarding BB’s first show of the season and its new cast, so read on below.

Time Travel Theme

The summer is sure to sizzle now that Big Brother has officially returned for Season 28. This season will mark the reality show’s 1,000th episode, and to celebrate this, the series’ theme is ‘Big Brother Time Trip’. It teases to ‘guide viewers through a season where history is rewritten, and anything is possible.’

In fact, the dining room table, where all the competitors gather, has been turned into a ‘time machine’ and was used as a vessel for the first three challenges of the competition.

But let’s start at the beginning. Fourteen houseguests moved in on Thursday to vie for the $750,000 prize, and they included:

Ashley Trail (24)

Barrett Pfeiffer (27)

Chuck Anyanwu (27)

Drew Campbell (22)

Haley Thogmartin (29)

Jason de Puy (35)

Kamuela “Kamu” Kirk (32)

LaTrice Verrett (57)

Lyric Medeiros (25)

Mallory Aurichio (24)

Melody Morris (24)

Rome Seymour (28)

Taylor Brown (27)

After some introductions and pleasantries (and a lot of screaming), the houseguests quickly learned that three others would be joining them, and these three would be reality star icons.

The Challenges

After an initial challenge to see who’d be competing to remain ‘safe’ in the house from the first round of nominations, 12 of the 14 houseguests got to compete.

Using the ‘Dining Table Time Machine’, four players were ‘transported’ to three different dates in the ‘past’.

Really, they likely just walked outside to the BB yard that was redecorated, but still, four mini games were played that allowed ‘safety’ to one player per round. The winner of each game got to bring a reality icon into the house for the competition.

In the end, Rome, a pickleball coach, Chuck, a supply chain analyst Chuk, and Jason from RuPaul’s Drag Race secured safety for the week.

Each winner ushered in the arrival of reality icons Angela Murray (BB 26), Rick Devens (Survivor vet), and Rachel Reilly (BB vet who’s been in many seasons, including last year’s).

Plot Twist!

Rachel wasn’t around for that long, though. After all, three reality icons arrived, the houseguests were taken back, via the time machine table, to a ‘Jurassic Period’ competition for the first Head of Household (HoH) competition. A dinosaur cornered Rachel into a volcano; she fell in, and in a split second, she was out of the game.

BB host, Julie Chen, announced that Rachel’s replacement will be revealed on Friday, July 10, on a special show called “Big Brother: Unlocked” airing on CBS, 8 p.m. ET. Word on the street is, it’s another Survivor alum.

In fact, the buzz is that it is Dee Valladares. The date Chen provided as a tease on who was coming into the house was flashing the date of Dec. 20, 2023, which is when Dee won Survivor 45.
