The Monarchy is going through a lot of pressure right now, following several revelations about former Prince Andrew’s scandalous ways.
At the moment, the public outcry range from calling for King Charles to abdicate to asking for more transparency regarding the spending of royal funds.
Andrew’s arrest might just be the screw that opened the can of worms, of which the incredibly weird pictures of him and young women do nothing to dissipate.
At the time of the Monarchy’s deep crisis, BBC has chosen to discontinue a 37-year tradition.
BBC Blames Funds As Reason They Won’t Be Broadcasting the 2026 Commonwealth Day Service
The BBC has chosen to pass on covering one of the key events in the Royal Family calendar. For decades, the Commonwealth Day service has been the highlight of a royal year.
This time, it’s likely not going to shine as brightly as previous times, following BBC’s decision to pull the plug on live coverage.
Even though key royals, including Prince Edward and wife Sophie will be missing the service, King Charles and Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Princess Anne and her husband Sir Tim Laurence will be among the lineup.
While royal insiders are scrambling to understand why BBC is refusing to provide live coverage of the event, which is usually followed by a grand reception, the news network has decided to put out a statement and set records straight.
The statement reads: “Our decision not to broadcast the Commonwealth Day ceremony in the same way we’ve done in previous years reflects the difficult choices we have to make in light of our funding challenges. BBC News plans to cover the service across its platforms, including the BBC One bulletins and rolling news channel.”
Royal expert Tessa Dunlop, however, believes that the BBC kicking such a gargantuan royal event to the curb marks the beginning of the end for the monarchy.
“The BBC ‘s dumping of the commonwealth service speaks to establishment slippage – one that incorporates four previously revered institutions – the BBC, the Royal Family, the Church of England, and the Commonwealth,” the author and biographer told the Mirror. “In these tense times previously we’d have sought consolation in national rituals and shared events. Not anymore.”
Dunlop then notes: “More specifically, it is a warning sign for the Royal Family that things are not what they were.”
The crisis will reportedly see King Charles address the ongoing situation in Iran.
