When cousin Joseph Duggar was arrested on child pornography charges, Amy Duggar King rushed to show love and support for his wife, Kendra Duggar.
Sadly, as beautiful as the thought was, it no longer holds water in light of latest developments. And Amy Duggar King has scrambled to adjust her own statement. Here’s what she has to say now that Kendra has been implicated in her husband’s crimes.
Amy Duggar King Rushes To Adjust Her Message of Support To Kendra: “Blindsided”
A few days after the police took Joseph Duggar into custody on allegations of child sexual abuse, his wife Kendra was arrested as well.
Now Amy has seen it necessary to point out that her previous statement, shared on Friday, March 20 on her website, was written prior to her learning of Kendra’s arrest and possible involvement.
“When I wrote that I was praying for Kendra ‘as she begins to process this,’ I was speaking to what I believed at the time — that she was a wife and mother blindsided by devastating news about her husband,” King said.
Kendra was arrested on Friday, March 20, on four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment. She was later released.
Acknowledging the severity of the charges, Amy said, “[these charges] are not the same as Joseph’s charges, but they are not small, and I will not treat them as small.”
Refusing to point fingers or speculate on the situation, Amy deferred to the authorities’ investigation to help bring the truth to the light.
“To the four children in that home — I see you. I pray for you. None of this is your fault, and none of this is your burden to carry,” she wrote.
The ’19 Kids and Counting’ alum also praised the alleged victim of Joseph’s crimes for doing an “incredibly brave thing.” “You did an incredibly brave thing by coming forward. You deserve to have every institution around you work on your behalf — not to protect the people who hurt you, and not to protect the image of a family.”
In her previous statement, Amy had expressed her heartfelt wishes to Joseph’s wife. “I am also praying for Joseph’s wife, Kendra, as she begins to process this, and for the protection of their children,” she wrote at the time.
