The Man Died In The War, The Woman Died Of A Broken Heart
Cole shared a poignant Serbian tale of a couple whose love was tragically cut short; he perished in World War One, and she succumbed to heartbreak.
The village women honor their memory by placing golden love locks on the bridge where they last embraced. Cole added a lock inscribed with their names, symbolizing their eternal bond, and the gift he gave to Victoria is the key.
However, during a later gathering at Society, he began to cough again, downplaying his condition by attributing it to a minor illness.
But the intriguing question is this-why would Cole put a lock inscribed with his and Victoria’s names on the bridge, with it honoring a couple separated by death?
Could Cole Have A Terminal Illness With Symptoms Of Coughing?
Did Cole become ill overseas and find out he has a terminal illness with symptoms of coughing, that will likely get worse and kill him? Several fatal diseases have symptoms like that, from pulmonary problems to lung cancer or cancer in the throat or somewhere between.
Some progress quickly, and unexpectedly, like inoperable pulmonary embolisms, others take their time and progress slowly-and still others aren’t found when still in a treatable stage.
Even though Cole and Victoria’s first marriage broke up, and they both cheated on each other back then, it’s obvious he never got over her.
That first faked call from Jordan (Colleen Zenk) that summoned him to her house on a pretense that Victoria needed him brought him immediately!
An Eternal Bond On A Bridge With A Man Dying And The Woman Dying Brokenhearted?
Cole, as a writer and a poet, would see symbolism in the story of the Serbian couple and compare it to him and Victoria if he was dying and he knew it.
But that doesn’t mean that he would want to come out and say it-he may not want Victoria and Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) to know. At least, not right away, especially when Claire is happy and in a very serious relationship with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).
He may prefer to go away before he gets really bad and not want Victoria and their daughter to see him wasting away. That really should be their decision but he’d want to protect them from it, and learn from a distance of his eventual death.
