The countdown is upon us regarding Christel Khalil’s maternity leave, which has fans curious about how Y&R might temporarily write Lily out of the show.
The recent developments involving Cane and Phyllis suggest that the show could be creating a smooth exit strategy for Lily.
After all, it seemed quite surprising when Lily abruptly began to defend Cane, displaying a level of compassion that was previously lacking.
The underlying motive for this change could be to set Lily up for a letdown that pushes her out of Genoa City.
It’s possible that some of the chemistry between Cane and Phyllis is genuine, but there’s definitely some manipulation happening between them.
Lily Spotted Cane And Phyllis Coming Downstairs Like A Happy Couple
After becoming passionate, Phyllis observed Cane as he attempted to guess her password and sneak onto her laptop to uncover evidence of her theft of the AI program.
Naturally, Phyllis kept her observations to herself, allowing Cane to continue their romantic moment in the shower.
Later, Lily spotted the two of them coming down the stairs together, appearing as a joyful couple, which was certainly not Cane’s intention. Given Cane’s eagerness to jump into bed with Phyllis for any reason,
Lily might conclude that she’s no longer interested in the possibility of a second chance. A part of Lily wished to believe that Cane was correct about their future together, but Cane may have just extinguished that hope by getting steamy with Phyllis.
Cane Might Try To Explain, But It May Not Be Enough
Even if Cane attempts to justify his manipulation, it might not sway Lily’s opinion. Cane could beg Lily to see his perspective, yet she might dismiss his antics and choose to create some space between them.
This could result in Lily taking a prolonged break from Winters and spending time with the twins away from the spotlight.
Even if Lily keeps working, she might do so from a distance and possibly concentrate on a project outside of Genoa City. In any case, Lily could be so repulsed by Cane that she leaves town, returning once Christel Khalil’s maternity leave concludes, but she requires a valid reason to depart in the interim.
