Bergman Talked About The Intriguing Phenomenon Of Soap Opera Recasts

Bergman, who succeeded Terry Lester in the role of Jack Abbott, shared his thoughts on the intriguing phenomenon of recasting in soap operas. He expressed his belief that it’s nothing short of a “miracle” that audiences are open to embracing a new actor in such a well-established role.

Furthermore, he disclosed that it was actually Scott who recommended him for the position after noticing his performance on All My Children, where he portrayed Dr. Cliff Warner.

Scott interjected to clarify, “I was a massive fan of All My Children, and when I found out they had let him go, I thought they were out of their minds.” She went on to say, “At that time, my husband was producing the show, and I told him, ‘This is your next Jack Abbott.’

Melody continued, We were in dire need of a replacement for Terry Lester. And I just had this strong intuition that even though his character on All My Children was completely different from Jack Abbott, he would excel in the role, and I was absolutely right.”

Naturally, Bergman was quick to add, “I make sure to send her a thank you note every year.”

Scott, who became a part of The Young and the Restless in 1979, is married to Edward J Scott. Throughout the years, he has taken on various roles, including senior producer, supervising producer, executive producer, and more.

She attributed the remarkable longevity of the show, which has now surpassed an impressive 13,000 episodes to its continuous and ever-evolving storytelling.

And also  the profound emotional connection that fans have developed with the characters, who genuinely feel like a part of their own family.

Additionally, she took a moment to contemplate Nikki’s transformation over the years; evolving from a young, brash girl hailing from a less fortunate background to a sophisticated and polished woman.

 She credits  her character’s relationship with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), who she believes played a significant role in her metamorphosis.

Both actors also delved into the iconic, tumultuous romance between their characters, highlighting the ups and downs of their on-again, off-again relationship, which included two marriages throughout the series.
