The Young and the Restless spoilers document that the recast of Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) has been a central focus this summer. However, the wide and deep plans Cane has for the residents of Genoa City, Wisconsin, remain convoluted.
Daniel Goddard (the original Cane) didn’t return to the show, which left big shoes to fill. Picking Flynn is proving to be a good one, as this daytime veteran has the chops to make what was a well-known character, who had only ever been portrayed by one actor, his own.
So, kudos to casting for Flynn’s addition to the cast, concerning Goddard, who was great as Cane for many years. Additional credit to Flynn for being tasked with an enormous amount of dialogue to learn and deliver in a storyline that remains debatable.
It’s ridiculous to believe that anyone, including Cane, could take over every legacy company in this city. Yet, that’s what viewers must accept to keep this tale flowing.
Cane Ashby Is A Tycoon?
Goddard’s version of Cane had a sketchy side, based on his initial arrival in GC and playing off the sympathies of two very tough cookies, Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) and Jill Abbott (Jess Walton).
Cane was never Billy Abbott’s (Jason Thompson) brother. But he falsely claimed to be. Goddard’s edition also later faked his death and gaslighted Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), although his intentions were fully protective of her and their family.
It is reasonable to believe that the character Flynn now portrays would throw in with Colin Atkinson (played by the late Tristan Rogers), considering Cane’s extensive backstory. But to make him a sudden billionaire. Well, that needs to be explained.
Repeatedly Lying To Lily Winters And Others
Cane has looked Lily directly in the eyes on multiple occasions and denied that he wants to hurt anyone. Yet, when he was alone with Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan), the feelings of others weren’t part of the equation.
The Aristotle Dumas persona was seemingly created by Colin and Cane to intentionally shield their emerging business from the world. Cane still hasn’t revealed how he came to have so much money in such a short period of time.
The six-year gap between when Cane left GC to look for Colin and his self-reveal in the maze on his estate in the south of France implies nefarious dealings. However, Cane continues to tell Lily that Colin and he built Arabesque on the up and up.
Victor Newman Is Being Helpful
If anyone can pull the real story out, it’s Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). The Moustache wants to safeguard Newman Enterprises, but his efforts to neutralize Cane or direct him to attack Jabot could serve to help Winters Incorporated.
Victor and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) were serious when previously telling Lily that they want her family business to thrive. They felt bad about lying to her about who would head Chancellor and continued to try to make amends.
Lily has taken Victor’s suggestion and continues to communicate with Cane. But she hasn’t made any progress in learning what his takeover plans involve or in getting him to stop.
Yes, Cane still loves Lily and appears to be telling the truth when saying that he wants to reunite with her. But even if she agreed to that, which she hasn’t, Cane’s shown zero signs of ending his plan to take control of numerous GC legacy businesses.
