Will Prince Harry’s Former Charity Sentebale Survive this PR War?

Will Prince Harry's Former Charity Sentebale Survive this PR War?

Last week and the week before have been filled with shocking revelations about Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso’s charity Sentebale, which they both reportedly founded to honor their mothers.

First, it was the news that the Princes have decided to leave the charity in solidarity with the charity’s former trustees, who quit as a result of an internal dispute going on within the charity’s walls.

Sentebale’s chair, Dr Sophie Chandauka, blindsided by the statement and the Princes decision to quit, launched her own claims, defending her actions and stating that Harry had been trying to undermine her authority due to her refusal that Sentebale should be an extension of the Sussexes’ PR machine.

With all this back and forth going on, the main question remains this: will Sentebale survive to serve the little people it was founded to help?

What Prince Harry and Dr Sophie Chandauka Have Said About the Charity Commission Opening Investigation Into Sentebale

To quieten the chaos and the noise, and to ensure that the charity is running up to par, the Charity Commission opened a compliance case on Friday, April 4.

Their mision will be to assess the concerns raised and to make sure that Sentebale is continuing to render the much-needed help it was founded to give.

Following this, Dr Chandauka shared In a statement: “We hope that, together, these actions will give the general public, our colleagues, partners, supporters, donors and the communities we serve comfort that Sentebale and its new board of trustees are acting appropriately to demonstrate and ensure good governance and a healthy culture for Sentebale to thrive.”

Prince Harry’s statement, also representing Prince Seeiso and the former trustees, said: “We share in the relief that the Charity Commission confirmed they will be conducting a robust inquiry. We fully expect it will unveil the truth that collectively forced us to resign. We remain hopeful this will allow for the charity to be put in the right hands immediately, for the sake of the communities we serve.”

According to Dr Chandauka, new donors have come forward to support Sentebale’s causes, so the charity will likely outlive the departure of both of its original founders.
