Why Prince William and Prince Harry Won’t Inherit Princess Diana’s Childhood Home

Prince William amd Prince Harry were indeed made richer by the millions that their mother left behind for them when she passed away in 1997.

Her £14 million fortune, which comprised of possessions, jewellery and of course money, grew to £20 million by the time the boys were of age.

This was thanks to the money being placed in trusts and invested throughout the years they were coming of age. When Harry left the royal family, he notably dipped his hands into his mother’s funds to be able to sustain his new life as an independent citizen in America.

While the boys no doubt have inherited a lot from their mother, her Althorp Home is sadly not going to be one of them.

Who Will Inherit Princess Diana’s Childhood Home Where She Grew Up And Was Buried

Althorp Home will forever hold a strong sentiment for Prince William and Harry, especially since the house was a source of joy for their mother when she was a child.

She spent her holidays at the impressive 5,463-hectare estate before moving in permanently at the age of 14.

When she passed away, she was buried at the Grade I listed Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire.

The property has been in the family for 500 years, and while the concept of primogeniture is being frowned upon these days, Earl Spencer wishes to continue with the tradition in hopes of keeping the estate “together” for a very long time.

Earl Spencer Reveals Reason His Eldest Child Won’t Inherit Althorp Estate

Bypassing William amd Harry, the impressive estate – worth around £100 million – will go to Louis Spencer, despite the South African raised man having an elder sister Lady Kitty Spencer.

This is thanks to a system known as the primogeniture, where titles and inheritances pass down to the eldest son instead of the eldest child.

Even though the practice is now generally frowned upon, Earl Spencer insists he’s going to keep up the practice in hopes the estate can remain in the family for generations to come.

In 2015, the now 58-year-old said: ‘If I chose Kitty it would be against all the tradition that goes with Althorp. It’s just the way it is. I get the problems with it as a concept.

“I also get the strengths of it having worked to date. It is still intact. If you go around the chateaux of the Loire or whatever, they are empty.”

He added: “Everything gets split equally through the generations and you end up with a beautiful building with one nice tapestry in it. The whole idea of primogeniture was to keep it together.”

Perhaps it’s just easier to divide things that way, especially seeing that he has welcomed seven children from three different marriages.
