What Happened To Doctor Odyssey?

Will there be a Doctor Odyssey Season 2?  When the Ryan Murphy series debuted in September 2024 there was a lot of buzz around Joshua Jackson’s new primetime medical show.  But, a year has passed since the debut on ABC and there still hasn’t been a renewal.

If you didn’t catch Doctor Odyssey when it aired on ABC, it’s definitely worth adding to your summer binge list. 

The series followed Joshua Jackson’s character Max, a doctor on a luxury cruise ship with his own medical team to tend to passengers while they are out to sea. 

Every week introduced a new group of passengers and Max and his team dealt with their unique medical emergencies.

So, why hasn’t ABC announced the fate of the series, a year later?  The network seems interested in moving forward with Joshua Jackson and the cast, but TPTB at the network say it is actually Ryan Murphy they are waiting for. 

ABC hasn’t renewed Doctor Odyssey because showrunner Murphy has too much on his plate as it is.  But, at the same time they don’t want to cancel the series either because we can all agree they have another hit on their hands.  

Last month an ABC exec explained the Dilemma to TVLine, “Doctor Odyssey is not on our [fall 2025] schedule currently. We’re in talks with [series creator] Ryan [Murphy], and we really look to him about what the next chapter might be.”

The exec added, “Ryan’s extremely busy. With 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville [the new spinoff] and he’s doing All’s Fair. I know he’s working on a bunch of shows for FX that they’re really excited about too.”
