True crime followers in the Houston area fear there’s a serial killer on the prowl. However, Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Police Chief J. Noe Diaz dissed the idea, despite numerous bodies being found in the bayous in the last week.
More Than 5 Bodies?
Did the Mayor convince people there is no serial killer? In a press conference on Tuesday, he and the police chief talked about five bodies found in one week. However, other reports referred to a total of 13 bodies discovered in Houston bayous this year. Clearly irritated that social media was filled with talk of a serial killer, the Mayor seemed angry about the speculation.

In the press conference, covered by Fox 26 Houston, he said, in part:
Let me state enough is enough of misinformation while speculation by either social media, elected officials, candidates, the media. We do not have any evidence that there is a serial killer loose in Houston, Texas. Let me say that again. There is no evidence that there is a serial killer loose on the streets of Houston. If there was, you would hear it from me first.
The Mayor and the police chief both spoke about how many people are “homeless,” and when they die, their friends sometimes dump them in the bayous. Without naming him, they called on influencers, like the Instagram account, Daily Rumble, to stop claiming there is a serial killer.
The influencer had asserted that sources confirmed police suspected a serial killer was on the prowl. In fact Houston Public Media directly accused the influencer of “falsely” making that claim.
The Other Reports Mention 13 Bodies
Four days ago, Fox Houston reported that a total of 13 bodies had been found in bayous this year. In their report, local residents expressed skepticism that 13 drowning deaths were a coincidence. One body recently identified was Jade McKissic, a university student.
When the mayor told true crime armchair experts that “enough is enough,” he failed to convince many people that a serial killer isn’t on the loose. In fact, some slammed him and his administration for what they called a “SHAMEFUL cop-out.”
Unconvinced & Angry Locals
Here are a few more reactions from the discussion area:
- I don’t see any “EVIDENCE” that there’s NOT a serial killer in Houston, either!!
- We need patrols and more police button stations – We need help before the dive team goes out…You can’t say NO FOUL PLAY before the Autopsy…makes no sense.
- Mayor doesn’t want the population to realize that a Serial Killer on the loose, so he’s on TV and trying to shut it down. Because, all of us, Peoples, know we’ve got a Hot and Spicy Dexter in Houston.
- 13 bodies!!! Houston we gotta a problem.
