‘The Voice’ Season 28 Shakeup: Meet the Show’s New Host

The Voice

After more than a decade on air, The Voice is proving it still knows how to surprise its audience.

The singing competition, now heading into its 28th season, is rolling out some of the biggest changes in its history—new rules, a brand-new feature, and even a shakeup in the host’s role.

Coaches Return, Rivalries Heat Up

Coming off a win in Season 27, Michael Bublé is back and chasing his third consecutive victory. But standing in his way are three familiar faces: Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Niall Horan.

For Reba, this season carries personal weight. She briefly stepped away from filming last month following the passing of her stepson, Brandon Blackstock—who also happens to be Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband. Clarkson, meanwhile, won’t be part of Season 28 but is already confirmed to return in 2026 for Season 29.

The Mystery of the Penalty Box

Fans already know that The Voice has a way of keeping the format fresh, and Season 28 is no exception. A new element called the “Penalty Box” is set to debut, though the details are still under wraps.

“When somebody’s a bad boy, we put them in the Penalty Box,” Michael Bublé teased in the season trailer. He even joked with fellow coach Niall Horan, saying, “Now you get two minutes for looking too good.”

The big question now: will the Penalty Box be used against contestants, or are the coaches themselves at risk?

Carson Daly’s Role Evolves

Perhaps the most surprising change involves longtime host Carson Daly. Since 2011, he’s served primarily as the backstage cheerleader for contestants. But Season 28 introduces something called “Carson’s Callback.”

The trailer didn’t spell out exactly what this new power entails, but speculation suggests it could allow Daly to influence which contestants are saved from elimination. For fans, this twist is nothing short of thrilling.

Omg I’m so excited that Carson is playing a bigger part this season!” one viewer wrote online.

“Omg this season is going to be on ! The Carson Callback button is here. Let’s go!!!️” another fan added.

“OMGGGG!! I’m sooo excited for this season!!! Snoop is my guy for real!! Carson is getting a bigger part of this season ayyyy!!! Sooo excited and I can’t wait to this season!!! I’m definitely team Snoop”

Another even joked: “I bet if Carson was a judge he would win the whole d*mn thing.”
