The true crime incident, according to the Department of Homeland Security, happened amid an enforcement operation on immigration close to 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue. Law enforcement officials claimed that the shooting was unexpected.

Initially, The Man Fled The Scene

Ali Bradley’s report confirmed that “DHS officers” were performing a check of the immigration status. However, they were met with gunfire by a person in a black jeep who then left the area and fled the scene.

Other violent acts occurred and the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the Border Patrol agents were the targets of bricks and a paint can during the confrontation.

No Injuries After Gunfire

There weren’t injuries to the federal agents as a result of the shooting. However, a Chicago Police officer was given medical treatment for minor injuries when he was “accidentally struck by a pickup truck.” But, “The officer is expected to be okay.”

The suspect was already on the radar as a violator of the Laken Riley Act, Apparently, he had previous weapons-related convictions. Now, he’ll be charged with committing an assault on federal officers. The investigation is ongoing, and he’s still in custody. Meanwhile local residents felt that the ICE agents had acted way too aggressively.

Viewers React

While many people support the resistance to the immigration policies of the Trump Administration, there are also many folks who feel fed-up with criminals from other countries. So, one person opined:

These people literally run outside to get so-called traumatized, put themselves in the area of pepper spray, flash bangs, tear gas and then jump on camera and say ICE is terrorizing the community…As a community in the US they should not want criminals in their communities.

Here are a few more responses from the discussion area:

  • Shooting at feds just doing their job sounds like terrorism to me.
  • border patrol gets shot at, bricks thrown at them, etc, and they come out and talk about how the federal agents are the problem.
  • Who would have ever guessed than an illegal would become a felon and get his hands on a gun illegally and then fire on ICE?
