The mass shooting that happened at a children’s birthday party in Stockton, California this weekend left four people dead, and now all of them of them have been identified. However, the names were not officially released by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. Instead, family and community members shared their loss.
The Four Victims
Four people died, and until today, a girl named Journey Rose Rio Tutor Guerrero was not known. Apparently, she was eight, but was thought to be a nine-year-old child from initial reports. Per the New York Post, the 14-year old was Amari Peterson. He looked like a sweet kid, and the outlet cited his mom as saying, “My baby was innocent…We were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Who would have known my baby wasn’t gonna come home with me?”

The devastated mom remembered how before the Stockton birthday party shooting, her boy just loved getting out with his friends playing “football” and “basketball.” Her grief is obvious, and she reached out to everyone, asking, “Just pray for me, my family, his friends, everybody that came across him. My baby was loved.”
The 21-Year-Old & Another Child
Others confirmed by loved ones include Susano Archuleta, a young adult man aged 21. And then, sadly, the other eight-year-old’s name also arrived. Maya Lupian had only just started her life, and one can only imagine how she looked forward to the day. However, a hail of gunfire in a tragic true crime incident took her life way too soon.

Other updates revealed that unfortunately, there were more than 14 people injured. Apparently, two people took themselves for medical treatment, and they have now added to the total of 17 people altogether. At the moment, as many people suspected when we first reported the news, there might be gang connections.
The Investigation & Public Reactions
Apparently, law enforcement investigate potential motives, including possible gang connections. On a side note, and it’s not clear if it’s important to the motive, is that two local rappers also attended the event. Right now, not much comes from the investigators, who possibly hope that misinformation won’t compromise bringing the culprits to court.
When the New York Post shared their story on Instagram, many people reacted to the news about Amari Peterson who died at the Stockton birthday party. One person wrote, “So sad. He had his whole life ahead of him. Looks like a sweet kid.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- So sad I feel so bad for the child and grieving family. They are so innocent.
- So sad, at this point can’t take your family anywhere.
- it was a party thrown for CHILDREN. Who would ever expect or imagine such things.
- It’s heartbreaking to see children being killed by adults who cannot control their emotions.
