Prince William Shares Funny Stories About Windsor Castle During Chat with Eugene Levy

If you ever dreamed of getting a personal tour of Windsor Castle, Prince William might just be your ideal guide — especially if his sense of humor from a recent interview with actor Eugene Levy is anything to go by.

During an appearance on Levy’s travel series The Reluctant Traveler, the future king joined the Schitt’s Creek star for a walk through the centuries-old castle. Between reflections on royal life and his childhood memories, William couldn’t resist sharing one of the funniest tourist moments that still makes the Royal Family laugh.

A Tourist Comment That Became Royal Legend

“The [Windsor Castle] tour guides get to hear some funny stories,” the Prince said. “We heard back one time, that — I won’t name the nationality of the tourist, but – they’re looking around the castle going, ‘Wow this place is incredible, but why did they have to build the castle so close to Heathrow airport?’”

William burst into laughter as he recalled the moment, calling it the ultimate example of a tourist mishap.

“[The moment] has gone down as the sort of number one quote of a tourist going around Windsor Castle,” he said, before adding with a grin, “I know my history is bad, but that’s another level.”

When History Meets Humor

It’s no wonder the comment lives rent-free in royal memory — Windsor Castle was built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, long before Heathrow Airport even existed.

The historic fortress has served as a royal residence for over 900 years, while Heathrow only opened as a modest airfield in 1930 before evolving into one of Europe’s busiest airports.

The irony of it all isn’t lost on Prince William, who clearly enjoys a good laugh — especially when it comes to the quirks of royal tourism.

Windsor Castle Through William’s Eyes

Amid the humor, the Prince of Wales also opened up about his personal connection to the historic residence.

Far from being just a royal landmark, Windsor Castle doubles as a playground and memory hub for his young family.

“We come in after hours and chase each other around sometimes,” he said, referring to the playful moments he shares at Windsor with his three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

A Royal Home Filled With Laughter

From the halls of history to echoes of laughter, Windsor Castle clearly means more to William than its centuries-old legacy.

It’s a place where the future king can balance duty with joy — proving that even within the grandeur of royal walls, there’s always room for humor and heart.
